Childhood Halloween Mask Memories? - stainboy - 09-18-2006

I loved my childhood memories around Halloween. Like Last of the Brunne G, I had tons of the little plastic Ben Cooper masks with the elastic string tied to them...I alos had my mother tie a lot of tableclothes around my neck to simulate superhero capes! Batman was my favorite!

My first horror related halloween was around 1986 when I dressed up as that burned guy in that first manufactured that burned guy mask and glove. I still have the decripit old thing in my bedroom.

Quote:well, sicknes, obviously being a kid was not that long ago for you....so its kinda funny you wanting to walk down memory lane when it was only 3-4 years ago most likely....lol...but seriously, my mom always made my costumes. I never got the opportunity to wear anything store bought at all.  We just didn\'t have the money to do so...so pretty much any store bought mask at that time i was jealous of....

Nah, it was 5 years ago.

I was just quoting my friend. When I showed him it, he was joking around and said "take me to memory lane" lol.

And apparently I found out he is a member here! That got me kinda pissed. lol. I think he is "ffatdik" or "ktaff03" or something.

I have no clue what mask this it, but my dad used to have a really creepy mask that would scare me shitless when I was little

its made of the thin, stretchy latex masks used to be made of back in the day....it was a goblin character...with whitish brown hair, whiter eyes I think, with a weird lookin mouth, almost as if he had stuff in it or somethin

its hard to explain, but I got it right in my head....I wish I could see one of these masks again

I remember going into CVS, what was then called Revco, and seeing what I thought was the best mask ever. It was around the time NEW NIGHTMARE came out and it was the Biggest Fred mask ever and the new nightmare glove. Man i beged for that mask. I think all together it was like $25 which seemed like a huge amount of money for a 9 yo.

I remember buying those vinly costumes from the drug store with the plastic masks. I had frankenstein and the devil, those were my favorite costumes. My dad used to have a cool gorilla mask and another one that looked like dr. doom but was pure black and had lights on it. Those masks were awesome.

I guess mine would be.. hmm.. when i was around 9 i think,, i was at my Grandpaws house,, return of the living dead pt3 was on.. we watched it.. i was in awe, i think that was my first zombie flick! This was in oct. The next day he took me to a revco here that had this weird ASS zombie mask, it reminded me of the tarman! It wasnt, but it was similar! That was one of my first great experinces, among others. I was always a vampire until then. Later i met my match with Friday the 13th.. then i was always and even now, always Jman!

Yeah man, must have been like 1985-6? I was in 6th grade, that was my \'killer mask\' that halloween. With brown wolfman hands, that crappy plastic scythe and the even worse brown \'monk cloak\' that was actually plastic with a soft white rope.

ahh yes, Halloween. Crunching down pavement on brown leaves, the sound of breathing through latex in your ears. A chill wind across the back of your sweaty neck.

Gotta love it.

Well, I am alot older than most of you here. I remember when the drug stores carried the coolest stuff out there...cooler than spencers or the like...and cheaper too. You could get all the best makeup, masks and costumes there. They had the coolest stuff for any costume. My absolute favorite costume was the wolfman. I dressed up as him for several years in a row actually. I would climb up in whatever tree was close by and jump down on people. My costume consisted of black jeans, a brown sweat shirt cut up with patches of fur sewn under the cuts and wolf man hands. My face i always did myself. Back then it was because i thought it was cool, but looking back on it now....i didnt have too many options, considering i was eleven years old and already had a good bit of facial hair. I guess it just fit me...lol....damnit I want to be a kid again.
Now, Halloween just is not the same. Parents make their kids trick or treat during the day. If Halloween falls on a Sunday, the majority of people refuse to acknowledge it and try to force people to celebrate the day before or day after. Entire communities are voting to either change the day of celebration or getting rid of it altogether. They have been trying to do it for years here.
But the one thing I will forever be grateful for is my mother\'s love of halloween. She instilled it in me and she stills goes all out each year. With her being sick now, she isnt able to get dressed up and help decorate, but I always do my damnedest to make sure I do everything I can to make each halloween good for her. I was supposed to be born on Halloween, but I decided to stay in a little longer and didn\'t pop out til November 4th, but as far back as I can remember, my mom always, always celebrated my birthday on Halloween....Mom\'s just don\'t get any cooler than that...
