Jason Part 2 Sculpt - IbDaToNeGuY - 05-03-2008

well i'm not sure how it looks now but from the pics , i'd work on the mouth alot as it seems to " stick out " like if someone was puckering up to kiss someone . i'm not trying to diss in any way but just would like to be of any help on improving your sculpt . i think that you are doing a fine job at this and for being your first sculpt is great . i think the steps to making something like this is to get the right amount of clay on first , then start shaping , and finally working out the details . mike,

Okay, I'll chime in here. I'm not trying to be mean, but here's some honesty. For a name, how bout work in progress? Don't mold this, it would waste your material. It's a starting point, your first sculpt, greta, everyone has to start somewhere! But, don't take what you get the very first time. My honest suggestion, smash this back into a blob of clay, shouldn't be too hard, and start over. And when you get that one done, smash it down and do it again, and again, and again. That will help you learn more then anything else, doing it over and over and over. Before you try again though, study anatomy, get a book and read it cover to cover. Then sculpt an ear, then a nose, then an eye etc etc etc. THEN try a full piece again. Again, I'm not trying to be mean, I applalaude anyone who picks up clay and tries their hand at making something, I respect that. I don't have the sculpting talent of a rock, hell if I sculpted a rock you'd ask me what it was, so I leave it to the pros. Have fun with this, it's art, art takes a LONG time to build and form and find your voice. There should NEVER be a rush to mold anything, why? So you can waste plaster, latex and paint to get a mask, no one will buy, and on you're not gonna be happy with realistically? Ease back the production, and just have fun with it. If you mold this now, you will regret it.

A perfect ending to a weird story. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"biggrin.gif\" /> Listen to Travis you must! I've destroyed numerous sculptures just to turn them into another character entirely....It's definitely a great way to learn from your mistakes and get accustomed to seeing images in 3-D. Also, you need appropriate sculpting tools. I'd look for very thin, wire loop tools myself. Those are totally badass. Hobby Lobby sells a mixed package of very finely buffed wooden sculpting tools and 3 decent wire loop tools under the company logo "Loew-Cornell" for like $6 or $7 a package...I picked the best-looking pack off their shelf and they've been working just fine for me ever since. Or you could just buy a better set online for a bit more money...Whichever's most convenient for you.As far as anatomy goes, I'd suggest bodybuilding. Adopt it as a lifestyle. Go to a gym and have a physical trainer teach you how to train the proper way. Over time, you will learn a lot about muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, and all kinds of other neat shit to use in sculpting applications...AND you'll be making your own body very healthy and strong in the process. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"tongue.gif\" /> What've you got to lose?Cheers and good luck,Ryan
