First Time Using Liquid Latex - Jason-V - 08-02-2008 The latex will peel right off after it dries! I even got rough with them a little, the latex is fastened solid through the fabric and it is not going anywhere, trust me. However there was some little cracks in the paint here and there, so I fixed them with paint mixed with latex so those stretchy areas will flex more. I will repaint the entire set like that if I have to. This latex is very durable and stuck to the fabric and anchored from the inside. I could not separate it from the sock. Socks work great because they are flexible. I used the elastic end towards the wrist, and the arms fit snug! If I pull them too far up they get very tight. So I made them longer just in case, and so I could cut some off at the bottom if needed. Next time I will use newspaper to build the mannequin arms up a little more for some more room slightly, but still fit tight and be form fitting. I tried it on with my weathered shirt and rolled the sleeves up and it looked sick! The "I cannot believe I created that" feeling came over me. After all these years of looking for Jason arms/gloves, and I made them. I may now work some latex into the skeleton gloves, as they are made out of similar materials. But they look so good they would pass as they are with some cut up sleeves and weather gloves that I made to show the bones. First Time Using Liquid Latex - wickedbeard - 08-02-2008 I just mix my paint and latex on a piece of cardboard.Sounds great sir brad, and your arms covers look really good.See.....it is not that difficult once you get the hang of it.And the fact that you did it yourself makes the end result that much sweeter. As crash said....Anyone can just buy shit and wear it, but to make your own stuff?......Now that is the rub.lol First Time Using Liquid Latex - sirbrad - 08-02-2008 Yeah it is always a good compliment when people ask me where the heck I bought my costume. Also sort of an insult too, but they say it looks awesome and think I bought the stuff. Yeah I mixed some on the cardboard box surface and it worked well, I also used a styrofoam cup. It is dry now and the paint is much more flexible. Plus you learn something every time you make something. I may start the part 8 arms soon, but not sure exactly what color I will go with as I do not have an undermask yet. Maybe grey mixed with some white.I also want to avoid a lot of sewing, and am trying to figure out how to use those shin/knee parts. Sewing takes way too long and if you mess up and the shins are not placed right you have to start all over. I also do not want to wear and underpants underneath as it gets pretty hot and tight. So I may just cut off the parts and keep the fabric intact, and slip them on and sew velcro straps around the backs so I can strap them on underneath the pants and show through. I also do not know how fabric glue will work to hold them, or if they will stay in position. But I i know if I connect them to my actual legs they will always be in the right position. What did you do for the shins?I am glad you inspired to do a remake as it is a lot of fun, and sometimes a pain in the ass. Which costume have you cursed while making the most? <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"biggrin.gif\" /> Sometimes you get so close to getting something exactly like you wantr it, then somethign messes it up. But yeah it is far more gratifying to see something you made yourself, and the feeling is priceless. Creativity is one of my strongest virtues. First Time Using Liquid Latex - sirbrad - 08-02-2008 Oh yeah I also repainted my rubies hood that I made out of the mask, as I am trying to keep all the colors consistent. Mostly dark brown with some black, and maybe some greys later. I have a few extra full masks ready for display as well I may repaint. Will also be making the hood "wet." <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"biggrin.gif\" /> I never wore a hood before this, and I must say it feels SO much better than wearing the full mask for 5 hours. I made it as narrow as possible and kept the parts that show on the broken off section of the Hockey Mask. Love it! I was scared to death cutting it out as I thought I would ruin it. I just did a little at a time and took off more as needed, as you can't put it back if you take off too much. First Time Using Liquid Latex - sirbrad - 08-03-2008 Yeah I am used to attitude as I do character portrayals, and is the main reason why I win every costume contest/parade I am in. I hear people say "He even walks mean." I love playing the pissed off part 7 of Kane, as well as the more reserved and zombie like part 6 of CJ. Both are fun. Head movements are also key, and body turns. I even walk up steps very authoritatively and methodically with my shredded pant legs hanging down. The Hockey Mask creates the illusion that I can see everyone, when really it is tunnel vision. Kinda like when Jason looked at the paintball mark, you can't really see down that far, unless you try and look through the mouth holes.http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/index.php?sh...23309&st=60Some attitude in those pics, and this new costume is a HUGE upgrade from that. Although the movie ones looks like a very dark blue on screen, but I heard it was dark olive green. I will probably do even another one when Justin makes new accessories, and use this costume to go over them maybe. I would like wet and dry versions of part 6 and 7. It would be cool to have permanent water drops on the part 6 mask to look like the rain scene. What would be the best way to achieve that? Mod podge used with an eye-dropper? <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"biggrin.gif\" /> First Time Using Liquid Latex - sirbrad - 08-03-2008 Here is a sneak peak of the hood I made from the Rubies mask next to one of the arms. I painted the hood the same way, I used acrylics nutmeg brown, then used black to add shadows and highlights/burns etc. I used a paper towel with good textures, and smeared it on all over to get the look, and it turned out great! I added light coats then smeared and rubbed it in, and the textures of the mask worked well with that method. I then coated the entire mask with a light coat of mod podge, which is now drying in the pics. I think mod podge is my new best friend.I cannot believe how well it turned out, almost like some weird twist of fate lol. I started with one paint brush stroke but I did not want it to look like lines painted on, so I grabbed a paper towel quickly to wipe it off, and lo and behold a masterpiece! <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"biggrin.gif\" /> So just went with that from there on. I cannot wait to wear this and the part 6 and DMC Freddy. I also cannot wait even more so to see the life-sized display of this with an eye added, and part 6 when I get the maggot-head. This hobby sure is time consuming and keeps you busy. I can only imagine making a ton of stuff for other people. That must be hell. Some pieces turn out so well I would not want to sell them. I like my part 7 Hockey Mask but will be getting one from Crash for the remake possibly. First Time Using Liquid Latex - sirbrad - 08-03-2008 First Time Using Liquid Latex - Homicidal#9 - 08-03-2008 for the knees.....kneepads...the volleyball kind work great...and for an exposed shin...a soccer shin guard. Just do what you did with the arms in respect to the latex and whatnot. If you want to have bone exposed, just buy a ping pong ball or something similar, cut it down to how big you want the exposed bone knob to be...and fix it onto the kneepad....same thing with the shin guard, just use a different shape of plastic. Then it will just be a matter of you strapping them on and putting on your pants.take care,Tommy |
