I got the opposite problem Ryan, I'm jacked and ready to go this year, planned out the yard haunt months ago, have 4 or 5 different costumes I could pick, a couple new masks, and even extra people who want to help me out. I'm gonna be stuck on the couch this year though with a bunch of pain killers thanks to my back. I'm really really disapointed. I know what you mean though, just kind of losing intrest, and drive to get into the spirit, I find the best stuff that works for me is to save a few things for this time of year. Being so emersed in horror, masks and props, and what most consider 'halloweenie' it can dull the excitement a lot, so you have to have something a little different to push you into feeling it. A few good movies that really remind you of halloween are great, I like Pumpkinhead, I only watch it once a year, and it always get's me goin. Hit a couple haunts in your area, a good corn or hay maze does a hell of a job. The decorating is a big part too, hard to halloween up a room of monster masks, but a few things here and there you only take out this time of year helps. The best thing though, get involved in a yard haunt, do one yourself with a buddy, or see if you can join one in your neighborhood. The people who don't wanna sit and geek out with horror movies the rest of the year LOVE to put a mask on and scare kids that one night of the year Wink Start early too, get a costume thought up and planned over the summer, figure out a layout for the yard, props you wanna use and make, like styrofoam tomb stones, coffins, gallows etc. And you really find as it gets closer, you don't have to do anything to psych yourself up, you end up getting over excited, like when you were a kid waiting to trick or treat. Everyone remembers 'those houses' the ones that gave the best treats, and the best scares, guys who go all out to really make a fun night, we ARE those guys now! We live in THOSE houses! It`s another way to think of it is keeping the tradition alive, makin the best night of the year that much scarier and funner, so the kids we terrify will one day grow up and scare the crap out of the next generation Wink

Usually what happens for me, because i have caught this bug for the past 4 years, is competition. You get a neighbor or a Friend or someone who just thinks there stuff is the best,In my case mine usually IS, usually the best but I have nothing to show this year,so when they start going on and on about how good there stuff is and you know golly gee willikers well you can beat there best efforts with one hand tied behind your back, and at twice the speed that feeling of "im feeling less than weeney" tends to subside and you focus on beating the tar out of any Halloween Challanger! After all just remember<b> <u>YOU ARE THE PUMPKIN KING!!!!!!</u></b> Remember, <i>Halloween is OUR Holiday</i> and we need to be the ones who break the mold and kick the crap out of any inflatable halloween yard decoration with a yard of zombies, or take that kid up the street with an 8-hole hockey mask from wal-mart and put your NIGHTOWL hack hood and custom screen acurate part 6 hockey mask on and blow his mind, inspire him to do the same next year.Spread the Halloween virus! What we do is not merely just for our sh** and giggles. We are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams! We are the ones who inspire others to go above and beyond to make this Holiday the best I can be. THAT is how i started, I went from store bought clown costume , to home made TERMINATOR 2 Costume! because I saw a guy with an amazing terminator costume the year before!!!Screw the economy! screw the fact you can't afford the latest mask, what sets you and us apart is we are the ones who say screw it, And we get what we can to make the best costume we can! and it usually blows the effing pants off most costumes! This is what we thrive on. Remember this. Remember the feeling of having the best costume of anyone around! Remember this stuff and i am sure you will come out of it....I know i did.

Is Anyone Else Just... Not Feeling The Halloween Spirit? - Deadguy71 - 10-22-2009

I can identify why *I* feel that way.. I'm in the back of a triplex in a bad neighborhood. No kids make it to our door on Halloween. I also don't have a front yard anymore, and had to get rid of my decorations a couple of years ago. I've been trying to move for 3 years now, but my gf's jobs don't last long enough to pull it off. Halloween is my New Year, and I always look forwards and back to see how I did that year and rally hopes that next year will be better. I guess that's because my birthday is near it, I dunno. Anyways, last year as I went to my office halloween party, wearing an el cheapo costume, mingleing with the folks that spent $100's of dollars on theirs, I got nothing but disappointment from my co-workers.I was accused of "holding out" on them... Being a 24-7 halloween type guy means I must have 1000's of awe-inspiring horror costumes laying around, awaiting me to don them, but apparently I didn't give a crap about the office party, and from what I understand, it may have even been taken as an insult to my boss. I was determined that this year was gonna' be different.. I started making a high-end prop for it in March and sold extras intended to cover the rest of the cost of the costume. I ran into money problems due to no fault of my own, but I scraped together the last of my funds to order a costume from Deadkid in July that I don't EVER expect to see now since he's failed on about a dozen orders, despite promises up to the last minute. I was also offered a freebie part for my costume from one of the "masters" which also inspired me to push forward with it, but being a "master" also means he's likely going be be busy as hell in-season. I'm still looking forward to it, I just don't expect to get to wear it this year, partially because the rest of the costume isn't ready, and partially because the part likely won't be here anyways. So yeah.. I'm doing a generic thing that I'm not happy with at all. It's a far cry from when I was a bachelor that had corpses all over the house from low budget film shoots, plus expertly made silicone masks (made by a movie fx pro), plus skeletons I was selling, and getting the police called on me by the bug-lady when she came by to spray because it freaked her out.. Also when I got married and had a home with a front yard, I had a lot more options too.. I even had neighbors donating stuff to my displays, wanting to be a part of it.Now it's like there's nothing, and unless I make some hard choices, it'll likely be the same next year. My halloween spirit is dead in the water, except for one little spark, ignited by "Trick r Treat" that has inspired me to do a pumpkin this weekend, but we'll see if the spark makes it all the way to Saturday or not. It helps, seeing that Sirbrad did a cool Jason mask pumpkin though <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"Smile\" border=\"0\" alt=\"smile.gif\" /> .

I can't believe what I'm hearing! You guys that are out of touch with the spirit of Halloween, you're nuts! You guys are in the epicentre of it all! Everywhere you look you got haunted houses, corn fields, scarecrows, pumpkins, you dudes are rolling around in it! Shame on you!Over here, there isn't any Halloween related stuff to be found except in the occasional costume store or bakery window! Just to get people to celebrate Halloween more,I printed out over 2000 Halloween flyers and spread that stuff all over my town, making sure everyone had one in their hands.I'm also busy organising all kinds of fun and scary activities for everyone in my neighborhood.I've even been busy decorating my house for the big day! <!--coloro:#FF8C00<span style=\"color:#FF8C00\"><!--/coloro<!--sizeo:6<span style=\"font-size:24pt;line-height:100%\"><!--/sizeoSo go watch Trick Or Treat,Monster House,Halloween 3 and other cool Halloween related movies, grab a ton of candycorn and a bowl of Frankenberry, carve that pumpkin, and have a spooky,kooky,HALLOWEEN!<!--sizec</span><!--/sizec<!--colorc</span><!--/colorc

Thanks for the replies, everyone!! I'm extremely sorry to hear that so many of you feel the same way.WickedBeard, I'm not losing interest in the hobby or my favorite horror films by any means.....That's truly not what I meant. The fact is that Halloween as a celebration, holiday, and day of <i>focus</i> for all this stuff - to me - has just gotten all the more dull in the last few years. Like most of the people in this thread and exactly like "mybankey" stated, I'm VERY used to living this stuff all year long.....I live monsters 24/7. Perhaps that HAS diluted the feeling of Halloween for me in that it's not much of a departure from how I function normally.Trav, <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"Sad\" border=\"0\" alt=\"sad.gif\" />...That sucks about your back, dude. Now I feel REALLY bad because here I am complaining, but I have no real reason NOT to try and have fun with this stuff, unlike you in your current situation. 'Hope your Halloween still manages to be fun and interesting, regardless.Deadguy: I think your problem is that you actually GO INTO the office on Halloween... <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"laugh.gif\" /> I absolutely refuse to go to work on Halloween, and will take any route to prevent that from happening. If I did that, my feelings and enjoyment for Halloween would likely instantly be shattered for a very long time. Guh...Cubicles, phone calls, and idiots sitting around in 5,000 identical pirate costumes really do nothing to help my enjoyment of the day...clownnation: Holy crap!! That's the funniest thing ever! hahaha...I'd be willing to do something like that. There are a metric ton of old, dilapidated houses in this county that look insanely creepy and could easily support a "backstory"...The only problem is that most owners of those houses have "No Trespassing" signs up and will not think twice about shooting your hiney for ignoring them. heh.Spaz: No kids here. We do have a friend with a 2-year-old little girl who has started a tradition to visit us each Halloween on her trick-or-treat rounds, so that's always a plus...We give her candy and hang out for a little while, then it's off to some of her family's homes for more of the same. That always seems to remind me how fun the day can be. Maybe I can look forward to that, at least. Thanks again and cheers,Ryan

Well, after reading everyone's responses I went on You Tube last night and watched about 2 hours worth of videos on yard haunts and other misc Halloween stuff. AFter doing that and getting some awesome ideas for my garage haunt, and with my wife wanting to be harry Warden for Halloween, my spirit has come back. Hallelujah!! LOL.My son (4 years old) also came up to me today and told me he didn't want to be Spider-man and instead wanted to be Jason just like me. I'm living a Halloween high now !! LOL

Being I am a hardcore fan/collector/costume designer all year is Halloween for me. Halloween time is just my chance to show off what I do, and make the whole town scared and in admiration of my costumes at the same time. Also some of the tons of money I spent comes back in the from of prizes. Nothing beats that high of walking down the street in a parade and having thousands of people drop their jaws at my costume, especially last year as my part 7 new blood. I was also ecstatic to see myself in the paper and win every contest I entered. Everyone else around me is lame too, nobody does crap except work and sleep. So it is my job to bring the excitement, thrill, and joy of Halloween to everyone. I am a professional entertainer and my job also carries over into this hobby now as well. It is my job as a die-hard fan and entertainer to bring that joy to others who can't do what I do, not simply join the bandwagon of those without the talent or dedication that I have. You will find that 95% of society is lame, beat them don't join them. Everyone counts on me every year to put on a show and I always deliver.
