I would love to own one of those one day. Threepio Has Arrived! - travsall - 01-22-2011 Holy crap in a hat. That is THE best 3P0 bust I've seen!! To get that high a shine on even the best Zorg head is about impossible, that is staggering man, congratulations on one amazing score! I'm more of an Evil Empire guy ![]() Threepio Has Arrived! - The Death Curse - 01-22-2011 It looks very nice! Does it have direct movie-mold lineage, or are its origins still considered murky? I know that many people consider Sideshow's Vader bust extremely lack-luster and small, but I haven't heard anything abut the C-3P0s yet. Cheers, Ryan Threepio Has Arrived! - Deathwalk78 - 01-22-2011 That's awesome man. Congrats! Threepio Has Arrived! - stainboy - 01-22-2011 (01-22-2011, 09:43 PM)travsall link Wrote:Holy crap in a hat. I'm more of an Evil Empire guy Since I posted this last night Trav.....I've been waiting for your response. I know you're one of the other SW fans on this board. I thought the same thing about the shine/luster. Every 3PO head I've seen in the collector market has always looked too dull (or too much like an EP2:ATOC style). The dimensions are generally waaaay off too. This bust was done by famed robotman, Fred Barton, who has replicated every robot in Hollywood. www.the-robotman.com In an interview, he said that this was the closest film prop you'll get to the onscreen version, however, note my comment below: (01-22-2011, 09:59 PM)The Death Curse link Wrote:It looks very nice! I know that many people consider Sideshow's Vader bust extremely lack-luster and small, but I haven't heard anything abut the C-3P0s yet. Barton had the rights/ability to use the actual film props to mold, but he said he chose not to because the years of wear had deteriorated the crisp, clean lines of the original head mold (which I imagine this mold-making community like NIGHTOWL understands the situation). So, he re-molded a version himself and only two things aren't 100%. His eyes have the appearance of being bigger than the film version, although this is a slight optical illusion because of the ring that surrounds the eye on this workable (lighting up) version. The only other major change is the indent "Slits" that surround the top of his head are missing the top slit (for no known reason) - however most people don't recognize either of the differences as they are so minute. The tradeoff, however, is that Barton was able to replicate the crisp lines of the original helmet. Overall, I just think you cna't mass-produce a better version - hands down. You might get a 3PO head off of the RPF forum that has the two additional useless head slits or eyes that are a millimeter smaller in diameter, but most of the time, these replicas don't have light-up eyes, an awesome base, certainly don't have a removable-magnetic restrictor bolt, are just too small in comparison, too light (compared to the awesome 40 lb. weight of mine), too immobile, too low of production value overall, or too dull of a sheen to be a good tradeoff for the one above. I tell you, as a 3PO fan for 33 years and a high-end film prop collector for 21 years, this is by far the best 3PO "Bang for the Buck" available on the market today. I am thrilled. This thing is awesome. This thing is god-like. But according to him, it's against his programming to impersonate a deity. (Sorry for the bad joke) ![]() Threepio Has Arrived! - IeatherfaceIX - 01-22-2011 Awesome Score !! Congrats Michael Threepio Has Arrived! - -Room237- - 01-23-2011 I love it!
