An Interesting New Production Mask...(?) What Do You Think? - The Death Curse - 02-04-2012

Well, I can\'t say much yet, but I suppose I\'ll have an announcement to make regarding this mask within the next few days. Anyone who has serious interest in its history, provenance, or mold origin, keep on the lookout for any updates here in the Madmen section. Smile

Thanks for looking and cheers,

Ryan

I wouldn\'t mind owning the actual mask pictured or a mask created from the original mold. A recast..... not so much.

Well, neither of those options are available to anyone on earth right now. Tongue A recast is definitely the next best thing to owning a real movie-molded or screen-used mask, in almost all cases. However, I think it would have to be a slightly modified recast for this piece in the sense that the "off-center" forehead vent hole will need to be filled. Everything else is pretty much perfect, in my eyes, but that hasn\'t been confirmed just yet...There\'s still a chance it could be an INCREDIBLY WELL-MADE fake. I have to wait a bit longer for my research to yield some results.

Cheers,

Ryan

Well.

My plans have officially fallen through...Sad Regardless of the fact that it\'s an original production gift mask from 1986, I simply can\'t afford to hang on to this right now. I\'m going to have to reconsign it. I\'ll take a lot of photos for documentation purposes, though. Sorry to everyone who was excited for this!

Cheers,

Ryan

So what exactly happened here Ryan? You were the buyer, or were trying to buy it from someone else? How are you able to take photos of it?

You\'re right. I suppose everyone does deserve an explanation after posting this thread.

Just to clarify the situation, I was the one who purchased this mask from Propstore. It is a beautiful piece and I have had it in my possession for about a week now. I have photographed it from just about every angle, made comparisons, and attempted to contact the previous owner and Bill Forsche regarding additional information on its origin, producer(s), and full history of the mask. I have not yet heard back from these people regarding anything more than what Propstore already had listed on their website. However, Mr. Forsche has promised to look over my photos and give his own point of view on the mask when he comes back from his vacation in a few more days.

After I received the mask, reality set in and I began to realize that I couldn\'t afford the loss of funds at this time. I have a couple sculptures and other personal projects in the works as well as on the backburner, and I have decided that my money would be better invested in those pieces at this time. The promotional hockey mask would only serve to be a distraction from the progress I\'ve made. Therefore, I have opted to resell the mask. It has already been sold to a new owner as of the date of this message, though I don\'t know if they want to go public about it. I\'ll let them make that decision for themselves.

In my personal opinion, this mask is quite unlike anything else that\'s hit the collector market so far. The style is unique even in comparison to Part 6 production-used pieces, though there are also striking similarities between both, including that glorious wide shape we\'ve all grown to love and a reasonably screen-accurate strapping system. There is also a potentially cool backstory to this piece that I\'m hoping to unearth sometime over the next month. Fingers crossed! Smile

Again, I\'m sorry for causing all the ruckus...This happened so fast that I haven\'t really had time to think about it. In fact, I am sending the mask off to its new owner tomorrow morning. I hope they enjoy it, \'cause I\'m SAD AS HELL to see it go!! Confusedad:

Cheers,

Ryan

By the way, there is an awful RUMOR going around that I spent upwards of "$6k" for this mask...

Please allow me to clarify and debunk that rumor: This mask was only a fraction of the cost of a screen-used original, or else I would not have made the purchase at all.

Thanks again and cheers,

Ryan
