When Will This End? - Spade - 08-06-2008 I do think some things are overpriced, but it all depends on what you are willing to pay. I can honestly understand both sides of the argument . Things have gotten a little ridiculous lately, but I do think collectors should be able to sell things for whatever price they want, cause you are not selling the mask/piece based on what it originally costs, you are selling it based on what it's value is to you. . Right now money is a little tight for me, but back when money wasn't so tight I didn't mind paying $400-$500 for a mask.<!--quoteo(post=270447:date=Aug 6 2008, 05:22 PM:name=jonl)<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE(jonl @ Aug 6 2008, 05:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
<div class=\'quotemain\'><!--quotecMyers masks will ALWAYS be the most overpriced mask...but what i am stressed about is things that i want costing $4k or $5k! I can't ever see myself spending that much on a prop that dosen't do ANYTHING but sit in the corner.Even if i could afford $5k it's still stupid and very high priced!<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEndSee now that's what I think is too expensive. Not masks in the hundreds, but the ones in the thousands. I saw a piece I wanted really bad and I asked about the price and it was over $5K and I was very disappointed. There are a few pieces I really want that are in the thousands and I can't do that now (with hospital bills and medication costs).<!--quoteo(post=270470:date=Aug 6 2008, 06:38 PM:name=PREMATURE INKER)<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE(PREMATURE INKER @ Aug 6 2008, 06:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
<div class=\'quotemain\'><!--quotecWell,My intent wasn't to cause any hard feelings.I am a very peacefull guy..I just cannot stand the price hike. Now,As far as leaving NIGHTOWL to go somewhere else?cold day in hell!!!!..This is just my point, Justin sells his masks for basically the same as he always has..and yet others are gouging by selling his work for far more than the man himself would EVER dream of doing to his customers(and friends)..sure it is their right and all but some common sense and tact can make everyone happy.Justin deserves the price hike..not the second hand guy..if you want to spend money like this on a mask?..offer Justin more for his matchless quality and professionalism. It's the reason he is still around and offers great masks for practically nothing.J-<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEndSee this is the part where I can see both sides of the argument. I really think the original maker deserves the money more. But I do know that some people are willing to pay a little more to get the mask quicker. And that's the buyers right. For me honestly I think it depends on what you are looking for. If you want it done a certain way and you don't mind waiting a little longer, I say pay the original maker for the piece. But if you are impatient and want it fast, there is nothing wrong with paying a little extra to get your mask quicker. It's all a matter of opinion honestly. I left the hobby for over a year and when I came back I was shocked to see how much prices have increased, but I still plan on buying pieces. I just think the ones that are in the thousands are crazy... not saying I don't plan on getting one cause I will probably end up getting some as soon as my money situation isn't as bad.Take care and God bless.Spade When Will This End? - krazedkilla - 08-07-2008 A mask is only worth what your willing to pay for it! If I don't think the mask is worth the asking price I just simply will not buy it from either the maker or the collector that is selling it. I honestly really could care less what people sell their masks for or if they are price gouging them. That kind of stuff just doesn't even phase me. They purchased them and have the right to sell them at whatever price they please. If they get the asking price; good for them. I don't see what the problem is. When Will This End? - sirbrad - 08-07-2008 Some masks are worth the work, just getting the money is tough. I use my masks a lot around Halloween, and create life-sized displays, so I get a lot of use out of them. Not to mention earning money through first place prizes with my costumes I made and the masks. The problem is I just do not have that kind of money unless I save a long time. One positive note is that the prices keep the workload lower, and those that order will get their mask a lot sooner.Imagine how many orders the makers would have to fulfill, if masks were like $50 and high quality. You might not see one for a year or more. Not to mention long hours of labor and material cost. But some do overcharge of course, and I only pay up to $200 tops for any mask, with the exception of silicone I may pay $500-$600 tops. When Will This End? - JekyllMd - 08-07-2008 "I don't want to name names but price gouging on masks is the last thing NIGHTOWL needs.True there was a time when I could afford 2 Hertein's at one time and like 7 NMM 78's..BOY WAS I STUPID!!!. Now those are the masks I can imagine selling for 1000.00 or more...but not an Evilution,NMM 78 RETURNS,etc etc etc..It's still way to soon for those masks to be going up by 400.00 bucks.Am I alone on this or what? "So your saying I can get 1000.00 for a first run NM78 signed by dick warlock !! Ebay here I come. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"biggrin.gif\" />Ooo by the way the NM78 in the picture below is the one Im talking about. This is because I am a myers guy.<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEndThat's like me too. A Myers I will spend more on than something else. A Jason Hockey Mask, there's only so much I'm willing to pay for one seeing as that's only half of Jason's head. Ya need an undermask/hood as well. When Will This End? - monteburns - 08-07-2008 If I spend $300 or more on a mask display I would prefer that it to be in resin with prop eyes. The most I have personally spent on a latex mask was $400 which is a rare purchase for me.I do however believe that most of the time you get what you pay for when it comes to accuracy and likeness. |
