Just Watched The Devils Rejects - stainboy - 11-08-2006 Quote:god....u guys treat me like a little kid. I was the first to scold this kid (or at least questioning a 13 year old watching TDR), and I feel bad about bringing down judgment on any person or parent - so I\'ll just say this: I guess the more realistic the violence, the less interested I\'d be in showing it to a youngster. Contrary to many horror fans - slicing a guy up with a chainsaw or beating a girl to death trapped in a sleeping bag isn\'t realistic violence. It just doesn\'t happen enough in the real world to deem it realistic. The Devil\'s Rejects and even Last House (although Last House was not as violent- it certainly was realistic in a sadistic and sexual manner) are both a little excessive , IMO, to show kids. But being realistic, all of the adults on this board (we know who we are) were definitely watching horror films at age 13, with or without parental consent. It\'s just that Fred Kr ueger, Chucky, and hockey-faced killers are a little closer to the superhero-end of the spectrum of horror films, than say "Otis" from TDR. No one takes Fred dy seriously......he\'s more for laughs than scares. C\'mon, he turned his victims into a pizza and then ate them. Sorry myersman, but I didn\'t mean to offend with the "kid" remark. But as Knewby said, 13-year olds still are kids. Enjoy it while it lasts, once you start paying bills and worrying about a mortgage, you\'ll wish you were a teenager again... Just Watched The Devils Rejects - Darth Pogo - 11-08-2006 Quote:I was renting horror films when I was 6 years old and couldn\'t see over the counter. The person working the counter must not of given a filth larn flarm filth. LOL but i\'m glad he didn\'t...I hear you on that one. The video store I used to go to, alas, back in the day, was always cool about me renting horror. It was a Mom and Pop joint ( remember those, guys!!! ), I think I was renting some Friday flick for 8 billionth time and also got "I Spit On Your Grave" ( In the BIG box, natch ) and the owners asked my Mom if it was alright that I rented these movies. My Mom always said, " He\'s a good kid, does well in school, involved in the Boy Scouts, if he wants to watch horror movies, so be it. He\'s not the one putting on a hockey mask on and chopping up anyone with a machete." Yep, my Mom\'s is the coolest. After that, the owner never gave a second thought to what I rented, they even put on my rental card that I could rent anything in the store. It all comes down to parenting. I work in a video game store and hear ALL the time, "Don\'t you think video games make kids violent?". HELL NO they don\'t !!!! Kids who have violent tendencies are gonna be violent, whether they play "Grand Theft Auto " or read the Bible every day. How many kids do you see out there, want to grow a moustache and become a plumber because they play Mario Bro\'s??? If you raise your kids, instead of just plunking them down in front of the TV, and teach them right from wrong, 99% of the time they will grow up "right". Wow, Rant off// Just Watched The Devils Rejects - HorrorHound - 11-08-2006 Quote:I hear you on that one. Ditto and Amen brother! ![]() Just Watched The Devils Rejects - myersman - 11-08-2006 Quote:I was the first to scold this kid (or at least questioning a 13 year old watching TDR), and I feel bad about bringing down judgment on any person or parent - so I\'ll just say this: don\'t worry about it bro. im not offended Just Watched The Devils Rejects - dxfan - 11-08-2006 I think that the way this kid has come across in the thread is grounds enough for him to be allowed to watch such movies. He seems itelligent enough to understand this IS A MOVIE, not real and its actions should not be duplicated. In todays society, children are exposed to an amazing amount of violence from others meadiums such as the news, I am currently in a Sociology class in college, it was reported that somthing along the lines of children will witness over 5,000 murders on tv beforet he age of 10. Because He knows the differeance and understand that this is just a movie I belive is grounds enough to allow him to watch it. Of cource parenting, or in this case our older members intervention is in fact nessecarry he should know that at his age he is an impressionabe young adult and that there are reason that children in his age group should not view these types of things as fact. To those who where " Getting laid" before he was even born. You have to realize in most cases you didnt have these kinds of mediums in your day and age. As hard as it is to belive, and as cautios as i am in saying this children today weather or not they are becoming more and more mature earlier or just have to adapt to the type of world we live in they are infact having to deal with these types of things on a daily basis. I\'m hard pressed to say that at 13 most of the users here would have seen some form of gory movie, had some nightmares and then that would be the extent of entire process. This young adult has the intelligence to not only watch a film, then come onto his computer, enter an online community of others that share his interests, be computer literate enough to post a topic on a little known mask website, discuss it reasonably with others and in a timly manner. these are all qualities of someone who should be able to dicern movies from fact. If he had not told his age im sure no one here would have questioned his maturity level. As hard as it is to say he is one of our PEERS. Me being just 19 i too and a young guy. I started watching horror probably around 15 and was seriously interested in the mask scene by 16, owning and maksing several masks of my own(hockey). I dont feel that he is too young . For god sakes we\'re a bunch of old men(and woman) with large toy collections running around like its halloween every day. Give him a chance dont take things so seriously Just Watched The Devils Rejects - Don of the Dead - 11-09-2006 Quote:Don....can you give us a little background as to how you had the cast over at your house??? :ermm: I\'ve been a member of Sid\'s site for 2 years, Ken and Bills for about a year. Just Watched The Devils Rejects - SuperDanDrista - 11-09-2006 Cool story..I\'m sure tons of fans invite them out with no luck. Very cool to see you have a good repore with them. I\'ve seen them at like 8 cons i\'ve been to in 2 years and they\'ve always been really cool to me. Unfortunately i\'m not huge on getting to know the horror celebs besides saying hello and getting an autograph. I\'m more into getting to know artists in the field myself... You need some masks for your shelves dude!! Just Watched The Devils Rejects - Don of the Dead - 11-09-2006 Quote:Cool story..I\'m sure tons of fans invite them out with no luck.
