There were really some good point's made in here, so I'll just elaborate on a few of them. One thing being is that you don't need to have a high number of mega pixels to have a great camera. Sure it helps but unless your printing pictures up to 8x10 and bigger you really do not need a 8-10 mega pixel camera. Also the mega pixels are good for when your doing a lot of cropping or digital zooming with the use of Photo Shop. A question that you have to ask your self is what your going to use your camera for? I assume that you want to have a good camera for taking pictures of your collection, and one thing for sure is that you don't need a Digital SLR for that, although the crappiest digital SLR is still better then your best Point & Shoot just cause of the full set of manual controls and your lens choices. With the right lighting and background you can make your camera's pictures look amazing. But for the most part I'd recommend a Canon S3 IS as well, it has a ton of great features such as manual controls, 10x Stabilized Zoom, rotating LCD screen and much more. And if you can spare and extra 300 I'd go for a Canon Rebel XT SLR, you'd never need another camera ever again. Here's some pictures that I have taken with my Digital SLR Nikon D50; <img src=\"http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y271/krazedkilla/Picture007.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y271/krazedkilla/Picture003.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y271/krazedkilla/DSC_0059.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y271/krazedkilla/Auto%20Show/DSC_0008.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y271/krazedkilla/Auto%20Show/DSC_0017.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />

I use Nikon slr's. Megapixels are really a marketing gimmick to get you to buy a camera. You really only need at least 5 megapixels to print an image. If you plan on using an image on a poster-size print out, you may be interested in a 10 megapixel camera.I have the Nikon D50, which is only 6.1 megapixels. But the image sensor is perfect for indoor or low light situations, which is what I mostly shoot. Also, I have lenses that allow indoor/low light images to be sharp. If you hate the way your on-camera flash works (washes out the face or doesn't allow the image to capture), you may want to consider off camera lighting. Setting up lights off camera (lamps, work lights) with normal lighting or even color gels gives dramatic effects. This kind of lighting may help your subjects with your current camera.Like everyone else stated, a tripod is really helpful for indoor or low light shots. Hope this helps...

Very VERY awesome shots there! I ended up buying the Canon PowerShot SD850 IS in the Digital Elph series. I wanted an SLR, but this camera is so small and convenient for travel. I have just been experimenting with it so far, but I will take some shots tonight and post them up in this thread to show what this camera can do.

I got the canon digital rebel SLR.. they used to cost around 1200, now you can get one for 600. You can\'t carry it in your pocket, but I highly reccomend SLR, you won\'t regret it. It will be the last camera you buy for a very very long time.Once you start learning about Apeture and Exposure you can either have a more enjoyable time taking photos, or your brain could explode..one or the other.Don\'t have many pics on this computer...<img src=\"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v651/GBeninati/lf_765.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v651/GBeninati/lf_801.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v651/GBeninati/lf_657.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v651/GBeninati/lf_643.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v651/GBeninati/lf_914.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />

these were all talke on \"auto mode\" without really thinking at all about lighting or weather or not to use the flash. If I actually knew more about what I was doing they would probablly be a ton better. so yeah.. Canon Digital Rebel XT<img src=\"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v651/GBeninati/Bahamas_540.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v651/GBeninati/Bahamas_317.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v651/GBeninati/Bahamas_414.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v651/GBeninati/Bahamas_397.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v651/GBeninati/Bahamas_453.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />

Here's some shots I took with my new Canon PowerShot SD850 IS.First some outdoor shots of my "Old London."<img src=\"http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a233/internalburn/Old%20London/NewCam064.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a233/internalburn/Old%20London/NewCam065.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a233/internalburn/Old%20London/NewCam067.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a233/internalburn/Old%20London/NewCam070.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a233/internalburn/Old%20London/NewCam071.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a233/internalburn/Old%20London/NewCam072.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />

Now some indoor shots of my Hellbound and Melonhead.<img src=\"http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a233/internalburn/New%20Scores/NewCam074.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a233/internalburn/New%20Scores/NewCam077.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a233/internalburn/New%20Scores/NewCam080.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />I'm still messing around with the settings and learning the new features...so these aren't the best pics, but I'm sure I'll get the swing of this thing soon.
