i use oil based clay.it is suckles to smooth though.i tried using wed clay and it hardened cracked and fell off the amature head.and its to soft for me to work with.what do u guys use.and why.

I prefer wed over oil based, it\'s a pain in the ASS.

Wed clay. Keep it wet or it will dry and crack like you said. For it to crack too bad you would have to neglect wetting it for a while, though.

Slate, i use nothing bout water based, its cheap,easy to find, easy to smooth, faster to work with. All you ahve to do when your done working in a seisson, just drape some wet wash cloths agains the sculpture and put a trash bag over it. Thats a small killing considering the advantages over oil based. I have a Jman prt 6 i have been working on over a month and a half and it still is just as plyable and moist as the day it left its bag. Give wed a chance man, its great stuff.

its way way way way way way to soft for me to work with.
I like when i just get the oil based out of the oven 
.its soft but not real real soft.thats how i like it/the only thing i don\'t like is how hard it is to smooth.
