Wayyyy Off Topic - Cthulhu - 08-29-2006 Anyone have any ideas on a good way to melt plexiglass or glass into a liquid without messing up its color i want it to stay clear as a liquid, because i want to pour it into a galvanized bucket filled with cold water so it will immediately dry into a poured free formed shape. I\'ve already tried plexiglass in a pot on an outiside stove and it didnt work i was wondering if there was a clear plastic with a very low melting temp. i could use but i eventually want to try this on glass. I figured i\'d ask here since there are a few guys on here that do the blank hockey masks and they need to melt plastic so if anyone has any insight i would appreciate it so much. BTW i know this is a really off topic question but i\'ve been working with plexiglass and epoxies for most off all my 3-d sculptures and i just had this idea and wanted to try it out. Thank You Anthony Wayyyy Off Topic - Cthulhu - 08-29-2006 hmm i kinda figured this question was too obscure for you guys but hey thanks for looking anyways i guess i shall keep experimenting. Thanks Anthony Wayyyy Off Topic - Rubbermugs - 08-29-2006 Only just seen this. It\'s going to be difficult bud. Plastics usually discolour unless the melt temperature is constant and it is kept away from air whilst melted. Not something to do if you don\'t have proper extrusion equipment. The only way i can see for you to go with this would be to do it first with molten wax, then possibly make a mold around it in silicone if the structure isn\'t too complexed. Then pull the wax out and fill the mold with clear resin. Silicone is expensive, and if you aren\'t experienced at mold making, i\'d either get it done via a private commission or forget it altogether. Other than that, i\'d say you are no further on, sorry ![]() |
