My First sculpture! Wip - Dzsturbed - 09-24-2006 Well this is my very first sculpture and i\'m sure i\'ll be on this for a week or so. It\'s far from done. When I get closer to doing details i\'ll post pics so you all can critique and maybe give me some pointers and what you think might need changing. ![]() My First sculpture! Wip - Mutilated - 09-24-2006 You shouldn\'t of started on the details like that so early, you need to build up the clay on the amature first then start doing forms and lastly adding details. Or whatever works for you I guess, not bad so far though. My First sculpture! Yea, I\'m no expert, but I do know that the latex mask pull will shrink about 15-20% the size of your original sculpture, so if you don\'t pad the armature to at least 1 inch depth of clay, then the mask might end up being too small. Nice skill so far, though.... My First sculpture! Wip - Mutilated - 09-24-2006 The monster makers armature is 23" around (the head), you need to make the clay at least an inch thick so that way the mask can fit people. My First sculpture! Wip - Dzsturbed - 09-24-2006 Thanks alot for your guys help. I was hoping to get input before I got too far into it. Anything else I should know that is important? My First sculpture! Wip - Mutilated - 09-24-2006 Make sure you have plenty of reference pics from all angles, don\'t worry about detail until your done with everything else and most of all i\'m number 1. My First sculpture! Wip - Mask Murderers - 09-25-2006 Best bet, cover the whole armature in clay, build a good mass up, never follow the contours of the MM bust, you may get in a rut, chop the nose & ears off. It looks like you may have made the neck higher up to, if you did, good call! get skull reference & start digging out the general shapes & proportions of a human skull, like Mutilated said, get a ton of ref photo\'s I no Mcfarlane did a figure to, best thing in life to sculpture from is a 3 dimensional object & Mcfarlanes is pretty dam good. Just have fun with it & don\'t stress cause it will come out good, the more you stress the worse it will be LOL. All & all if you have a passion for the character & to sculpture it will turn out great. For what you are doing now I don\'t see a problem at all, it will just be a smaller mask more of second skin if you will. Which is sometimes a really good thing. Keep on playing with the clay & let us know of your progress. Best of luck bud! My First sculpture! Wip - Cryptoys.com - 09-25-2006 Hey, I don\'t know anything about sculpting but I wanted to say great choice in a character. I personally think Djinn is one of the best Modern characters. Like bob said the figure is really great and still really cheap too. My First sculpture! Wip - WarLocK - 09-25-2006 I love Djinn!! Very cool my man - keep up the great work. |
