Keeping Latex Masks - Savage - 01-05-2007
I have been told that silicone spray is good to use to keep latex masks in tip top shape...Is this true, and if not, whats the best way to keep them from rotting or drying out. Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks guys!!

You can keep masks in a litted room as long as you have shades covering direct sunlight. Just be sure to keep them stuffed and powder them once a year if they\'re display pieces, more often if you wear them

Keep them powdered, Dry, Outta sunlight and Heat. Dont feed them after midnight and what ever you do dont pee on them!!!

Cool, dry, powdered, stuffed properly to reduce strain on latex, or better yet foam filled for older masks. Out of sunlight of course.
Seriously though, I took a mask, drenched it in oil, and kept it on my back window in my car for 2 years and nothing happened to it.
Latex is an extremely tough material. I have masks over 20 years old that I have no worries about because I know I am preserving them the best possible way. Let\'s say in 15 years, my Mccain Jman shows some significant cracks or something...well i\'ll just get it restored to last another quarter century
Latex deterioration is something to be aware of but not paranoid of.
Silicone spray is great....In fact, it\'s used by Stretch armstrong collectors to preserve that stretchable latex...
BUT, once it\'s sprayed it can never be washed of or repainted. OR even restored!
I\'d prefer not to touch my masks with anything but a sealer like Aileens fabric glue or perma wet.

Keep in mind that if you have a room with natural light peeking in, and you\'re not there to constantly move your mask around the room - that at sometime between dawn and dusk - you will have the natural light hit your mask.
My advice is to keep it completely out of natural light. Direct or Indirect. I kept my high school bedroom closed off merely with curtains and my masks have been fine. I have masks that are 20 years old now and they\'re just perfect. I never stuffed them, powdered them, oiled them, or did anything to preserve them. I just kept \'em out of that dang natural light.
