Writing A Movie Script... - JasonV123 - 01-31-2007

I\'m beginning to write a movie that my friends and I will be shooting in the summertime. I was wondering if anyone might have some experience in this area and could offer me some tips to writing a good script (besides no masturbating to dead animals :downSmile . I have never done anything like this before and my friends pretty much elected me to do it because of my personality, short stories and songs I\'ve written before. I\'m looking forward to doing it and just need a bit of general guidance. Thanks!

Well, if you\'re writing it for yourself and your friends to use, then you don\'t really have to worry as much about formatting it correctly than you would if you were writing it for someone else. Still, you want to format it as well as you can. For that, just use other screenplays as reference. That is probably the most helpful thing for a beginner--reading other scripts. I keep one on my desk for reference at all times.
Other than that, make everything as clear as possible in the script. Props, locations, etc.
If you have background in other writing, you should have no problems. Personally, screenplays are the easiest thing for me to write.

if you are writing the full movie roughly 90 -125 pgs. then its best to make act 1 and act 3 the same length and make act 2 the longest,a good amount would be 30 for act 1, 60 for act 2, 30 for act 3. make sure that you have a great "call to adventure" toward the end of act 1, a point of no return in act 2 where the protagonist has something bad happen to someone close to him or someone(s),they must then begin the readyness to prepare, then in in act 3 it will be the climax, where evil is confronted or defeated...and from there on it will be the return to the normal world...the protagonist doesnt have to live but if they die it has to be for the better of the cause....those are some quick pointers

I think that finaldraft.com has a trial version of their software that lets you write and save at 15 paged increments. Its free, unless you upgrade to the real deal. It is good software and makes it easy. You might give it a shot.
