A Question For Collector's - JoMaX - 03-20-2007 Hey guy's i have alway's wondered this and really there is no other way to learn by this if i do not ask around so here it goe's.....Why is it that most of you guy's sell some of the top end piece's out of your collection's in the classified section?.I mean wow i dont think i could ever rid of any of mine ever.It would be such a depressing time if one of my piece's were damaged or stolen and i know personally i could never sell any of my collection even in the toughest of time's.So that is my question.....how are you the collector's able to let go of the stuff in which you love lol. A Question For Collector's - duece978 - 03-20-2007 i dont have that much high end pieces but all of them mean something A Question For Collector's - Pugsly - 03-20-2007 Some people only have so much room for masks.Me i keep them all in my bedroom room on shelves so when they get full and new stuff comes out i want its time to move some of the more non attached to peices.Keeps the collection fresh plus all collecters have the Never sale items, but things come up and there only masks when real life situations come up........Plus everyone impulse buys, so if you do that and are not feeliing the peice, why keep it and take p rooom that you could use for others. A Question For Collector's - Chainsaw - 03-20-2007 I don't know what you consider high end pieces but I can give my two cents and opinion. I see 3 main reasons for this... simple really.First... to raise money for other high end pieces.Secondly... some people have their priorities straight. If bills come up and and funds are low, they sell to pay for the important things... life happens <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"wink.gif\" /> .Lastly... I think some people buy for show and because they have the money. It's cool to join a potentially expensive hobby when you have loads of cash to throw around. I think some will buy to show it off, collect all the usual kudos, then tire of the piece when the pats on the back stop. Time to sell and start again. I think there are a few around here <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/woot.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":woot:\" border=\"0\" alt=\"woot.gif\" /> A Question For Collector's - Deathwalk78 - 03-20-2007 <!--QuoteBegin-Pugsly+Mar 20 2007, 04:19 PM<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE(Pugsly @ Mar 20 2007, 04:19 PM)</div><div class=\'quotemain\'><!--QuoteEBeginSome people only have so much room for masks.Me i keep them all in my bedroom room on shelves so when they get full and new stuff comes out i want its time to move some of the more non attached to peices.Keeps the collection fresh plus all collecters have the Never sale items, but things come up and there only masks when real life situations come up........Plus everyone impulse buys, so if you do that and are not feeliing the peice, why keep it and take p rooom that you could use for others.<div align=\"right\"><a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=210861\"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><!--QuoteEnd</div><!--QuoteEEndI agree....Alot of the time it's like out with the old in with the new. I have to admit, there are a few pieces I would never get rid unless I am in SERIOUS financial need!!! A Question For Collector's - Savage - 03-20-2007 When you have bills to pay and children to support, it's sometimes a case of having to let things go! It's really shitty to let things go, but family comes first!!! A Question For Collector's - D-bach - 03-20-2007 some for sell for real life stuff, family bills etc etc, some sell to get another peice they want and some dont love the peice their selling and either bought on impluse like Pugsly said or bought it for show like Chainsaw said. A Question For Collector's - VF 31 - 03-20-2007 you got to sacrifice sometimes..it sucks, but if you need to raise money for a new piece or something more serious, you gotta do what ya gotta do. A Question For Collector's - myersman - 03-20-2007 I also have shelves in my room to display my masks. It does get crowded sometimes so u need to sell some items. i usually sell some of my masks because i need money for other great peices, also sometimes i get tired of the same old mask. I need change <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\" ![]() A Question For Collector's - shummy - 03-20-2007 <!--QuoteBegin-Chainsaw+Mar 20 2007, 05:26 PM<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE(Chainsaw @ Mar 20 2007, 05:26 PM)</div><div class=\'quotemain\'><!--QuoteEBeginI don't know what you consider high end pieces but I can give my two cents and opinion. Then you have to worry about packing it up, collecting the funds and letting paypal take their share. If that is someones idea of a fun hobby I think that they are probably a sadomasicist. If someone had that kind of money to throw around why sell anything - just put it in the next room and buy some more really expensive stuff and show that off too - much more impressive to never have to sell anything and just keep buying. I think all the people who are in that last boat do not partake in this board.Being fairlyy new to this hobby the only thing I can say is tastes change sometimes. I started off with some pieces I thought were really cool, started making connections and buying higher end stuff. The money does not keep flowing so something has to go so you sell the things that you can live without. There also is a space issue like Pugsly said. Unless you can afford a collection room it usually has to go somewhere with limited space. when room is tight either something goes or you cannot get that next piece you covet. Finally - Sometimes the piece you paid for and expected is not up to what you want as well. In that case you are best to cut your losses and move on rather than staring at it day after day getting madder and madder - that is not healthy. Just ask Crystal Lake Killer on that one - I saw one in person this weekend and he was none to pleasedMy take is Space issuesMoney issues when life get's in the way ( which it does for almost everyone)Expectations - the piece is just living up to what you expected - but the good news is someone elses idea of it may be that it is outstanding - that is why this forum is a good place to trade your pieces and develop friends.for the rich people who want to show off there new things - i think they are busier showing off their trophy wives or their new Mercedes.Just my two centsI think Pugs nailed it best |
