Need Some Mask Advice - liquidaluminum - 09-22-2007

Hey guys,I have a quick question. I had a Jason Lives undermask that I converted into a hood. It works great and I've added some hidden velcro up the back slit in it so it can be sealed again while wearing it which really looks good. My question is this. The hood itself is just a little too small for my head. I can still wear it but it's just a tad to tight and a little uncomfortable. Is there a way to stretch it out just a little bit so that it might fit me a little better? I wanted to try applying heat to it from a hair dryer while I had it stuffed with something but I wasn't sure how that would work out and I don't want to damage the hood...just stretch it about a half an inch or so.Any help with details on how to do so, or if it's even possible would be greatly appreciated.-Joseph

in all honesty man, i would be scared that any stretching of any kind would compromise the integrity of the mask. It would obviously be much thinner in some areas since you wouldnt be able to get an overall stretch and it would leave unsightly warping as a result...again, just my thoughts, based on accidental stretching of masks i have had in the past...although they were mass produced and already thin...Tommy

Yeah sorry to say you can't really stretch a latex mask once it's cured. The only way is heating and then over stuffing while it cools, but that would almost certainly deform it and make some weird buldges, wouldn't be great for the latex either. If it's just a hood you're not too concerned about, then put it in a pillow case, and then throw it in the dryer on high heat for a few minutes, take it out, see how the latex is, and either work on stretching, or put it back in to get it hotter. The best thing to over stuff with would be cloth, tshirts, or towels, find out how much you can put in now, then add one or 2 more when it's hot. Let it cool for a few hours, even a full day, and then check it. Just be careful, I can see the paint having some bad effects too, cracking or possibly lifting. Good luck man!
