I\'m sure this topic has been debated several times before but which do you think makes for a better hockey mask? I own both types and while the ABS masks are more comfortable to wear, the fiberglass masks just look better IMHO Smile

I\'m also curious about this subject. Didn\'t NIGHTOWL used to use Fiberglass and then switch for some reason? I think fiberglass feels alot more realistic.

Well, I\'m no authority on the subject but as far as I know ABS is more accurate to most movie used masks. I think there were only a couple movies that used fiberglass masks (FvJ and another I think) and the rest were vacuum formed ABS because it was easier to crank out a bunch among other reasons I\'m sure (strength, comfort, etc). There are plenty of people around here that know more on this so I welcome any of you to elaborate on this and/or correct any of what I just said.

I agree in that fiberglass feels more realistic because, well, it\'s heavy and we\'re just used to that as being interpreted as \"better\". However, I have a NIGHTOWL F7 hockey and it\'s easily my favorite hockey and that\'s ABS. When it comes down to it, I think the paint job determines the quality. Just my opinion...

Yea, cropsy and justin used to use fiberglass until the wonderful news of ABS spread town. 1. ABS is a lot easier to work with, and a lot safer to work with then fiberglass. 2. Light weight, and unbreakable. 3. Accurate to the material used in most of the films. However I have seen a view people make hockey masks out of fiberglass that were just right.

fiberglass will break when dropped or bent..do I really have to keep typing?

I own a bunch of Hockeymasks now, some out of resin, some of fiberglass and a few ABS masks. My own preference would be starting with first place ABS, then fiberglass and then resin. The reason for that would be that ABS is a) comfortable to wear, B) very lightweight c) quite flexible -- less prone to break and d) the masks themselve look alot cleaner and smoother.
Fiberglass comes second in my book and the only reason for that would be that they are not flexible and therefore would break easier. I dropped my fiberglass mask numerous times and it did not break unlike what I read on some boards, but then again you don\'t usually kick your masks around do ya?! Resin I don\'t like at all because because it is just too thick looking and very heavy.

fiberglass will become more brittle with age, and other conditions including heat, dry air, sunlight etc...
