Super Cool Snazzy New Score - liquidaluminum - 02-17-2008

Hey guys, Sorry I've not been around the the past few days, but I've been working on a little project. I don't know how many of you guys are into computers but I work in IT for a living *or did until I was laid off*, and I had been tossing around the idea for some time about getting a new PC. Recently we got Elizabeth a little Emachine since her old computer crapped out on her during a storm, which really got me to thinking about how it was time to upgrade. At the time I was using an HP ZG5000 Notebook and had been doing so for years. It was quite a powerful little laptop and HP built it to specs for me so I was able to game on it and such. That thing was the best laptop I ever owned until it started taking a dump on me. One of the fans had went out on it and the other couldn't support the load of heat by itself so it would shut off from time to time, usually while I was right in the middle of doing something important too. Then about 3 weeks ago, one of the claps that holds the lid in place cracked. It didn't break completely so the lid didn't come off *thankfully* however it became incredibly loose and flimsy because of it. Anyway I got to looking around at parts and decided that I wanted to build one hoss of a system to tide me over for a little while and the end result in my mind is a work of art. The only thing I did other than put it together was I modified the case a little bit. The only thing I did was take the black strips off of the case and paint them gloss black, where as they used to be chrome. As dumb as it sounds the case reminded me of Bumblebee from the Transformers so that's why I did the black stripes instead of silver. All of the gauges in the front work and give me external volume controlls and monitoring, along with CPU temp and Fan speed with controlls.. That being said, here are the specs and pics below. I hope you guys dig it, because this puppy set me back a pretty penny.Specs:Case: Apevia X-Cruiser Mid Tower with 7 expansion baysMotherboard: Asus M2N-SLI AM2 NFORCE 560 w/Dual PCIe Video SlotsProcessor: AMD X2 5000+ Dual Core (Black Edition)RAM: Crucial 2gb PC6400 HDD: Western Digital 500gb SATAII 3gb/16mb 7200 rpmVideo: EVGA Geforce 8500 gt 512mb PCIeOptical Drive: Dual DVD BurnersMonitor: Viewsonic VA2226 22' LCD (This suckers is bloody huge)Speakers: Creative Labs 7800 Series 7.1 Surround Sound SpeakersKeyboard: Saitek Eclipse II LED Illuminated Gaming Keyobard. That case is fantastic! -Aaron-p.s. isn't it dangerous to put a magnet inside the case!?

As far as the magnet goes...normally yes, however it's not a high powered magnet and I put it on the power supply which shouldn't effect anything at all. Believe it or not, although a magnet can damage a PC, it takes a pretty high powered magnet to do it. Not something the strength of a fridge magenet. When my friend Josh and I did computer repair for a company a few years ago. We ran across a hard drive that had been marked dead and was being replaced. Just for fun we took a high intensity magnet to it just to see if we could damage it further and to our surprise, the drive actually worked again and was used for about a year before it was upgraded after the fact. As long as it's just touching metal on the case and not the board, optical drives, or HDD all should be well.-Joseph

Nice, but no dual 512mb video cards!? <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/teehee.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":teehee:\" border=\"0\" alt=\"teehee.gif\" /> Def. a sweet setup and I'l probably be building myself a computer too cause for a high end gaming desktop prices are outrageous. If I were to buy one though I'd go with the Black Bird 002!

Ha yeah I thought magnets were a bad idea but I wasn't going to argue considering it's your profession <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"tongue.gif\" /> I'm studying IT in college. Need to get away from my crappy Bank mailroom job lol.
