I use a propane torch but I find that more often than not the metal oxidises really quick despite fluxing. Someone mentioned switching to MAP gas which burns much hotter so would get the metal up to temp much quicker. But I don't know if it just oxidise faster as well thus rendering the switch pointless....

If your metal is oxidizing quickly, then your flame is too high. I had that problem a lot and it just comes down to practicing and finding the best method and flame size to keep it from oxidizing. I generally get a medium flame going. I've had a lot of questions about soldering and I'm thinking of making a video showing how I solder things to help out.

Ahh, I hadn't thought of using a lower flame. I'll try that....

Are you using just propane? Or a propane/oxygen torch? Like a brazing torch? If it is the latter, use a more carburizing flame, less oxygen more fuel. Won't burn as hot but will be hot enough for soldering.

Speaking of glove building... did you get the blades yet?

Glove Builders - adee - 08-19-2008

Not yet. Can you email me the tracking number? I'll pick it up at work in the morning then.
