I've never sculpted before so this is all new to me, I'm mostly trying to get the basic form down before adding all the scars and other details. However I'm not happy with the way this looks. To me it looks like someone with a major nose and chin problem! All criticism is welcome! Hi Nick,this is a great project that you've started. Is it going to be based on a particular ANOES film part? or is it going to be a "generic" Freddy look?i think for your very first attempt/your first sculpt it is looking pretty nice so far, because it is a work in progress.this is just my opinion and constructive criticism:i am not a sculpting expert. but i think that the chin in the first picture (in this beginning stage) is looking a little bit to small/long i mean like a female chin.Freddy Krueger has a wider shaped (more flat looking) chin/jaw.Robert Englund's chin/jaw is more flat/wider:<a href=\"http://eur.i1.yimg.com/eur.yimg.com/xp/premiere_photo/20050906/12/1989830851.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">http://eur.i1.yimg.com/eur.yimg.com/xp/pre.../1989830851.jpg</a>the nose on top is imo a little to small (Freddy has a sort of evil Witch nose) and there are no clearly visible "nose wings" (in this beginning stage) that is the reason why the nose looks a little bit strange on the front site/view of your sculpt.i am looking forward to follow this thread on the progress with the details/scars/burns etc.Great project Nick. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":thumbsup:\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" /> Ronald

Nick, you have the right idea about acheiving "FORM" before anything else.But look... one problem i see on this form with beginners all the time... Dont let thatarmature cast give you a false sence of accomplishment.( would you be able to achieve thebasic human form you HAVE with out the rigid foam cast)?yesterday you asked questions, creepingdead answerd them. (you clay isnt thick enough) its not only criticalto the latex castings, but you may create a locked mold.stage one-rough out/block up your form... create and OVER ALL thickness of about and inch +while working toward the human form....stage two- gather reference material ( illustrated anatomy) is great... find the best shots of Robert englundsugly mug WITH OUT the freddy make-up..(from various angles)stage three- GO TO WORK!!! (you'll have those moments where you think that you just cant do this..those are moments where you either go to the next level, or quit.) sculpting well is difficult. 90 percent work 10 percent talent.tools you will need... calipers,sculpting tools (loops, spoons, rakes, stamps, brushes, (acohol, water depending on what clay your using)alot of sculptors are not satisfied with their work ( im one of them) we dont finish pieces we abandon them.one more thing there Nick, if you get to a place during sculpting ( a block) and you just cant get the look you want, stop workingcover the sculpt with a black plastic bag and leave it alone for a while. when you return and remove the black bag you WILL see the problem MUCH more clearly, it will be kinda like seeing it for the very first time... when other people view your work the first thing they see are the flaws.well, i do hope this will be of some help to you.... good luck, DB.

Thanks for the suggestions. Your right though, I probably wouldn't be able to build the basic head form without that armature to use as a guide. gerard, I'm not really basing it off any of the movies. I'm just trying to get the form right, I'll worry about the scars and all the millions of other details that comes with his face later. The chin definitely throws the whole thing off for me, and after looking at one of my reference pictures I realized like you mentioned that he does have nose wings so I'm going to work more on it. I never thought about using reference pictures of Englund himself. Thats an excellent idea!Nick

If your just building up the form first then I'd say dont look at pics of Freddy look at lots of Pictures of Robert Englund.He has a very distinctive head and lower jaw especially.Nail his head shape and then the rest should be made a lot easier when trying to match scar reference to the shape of his face you have sculpted.Hope that helps

Yeah, I'm more worried about the head shape then anything else. I just downloaded a whole bunch of pictures of Rob so that should help me. All though I must say that I find sculpting very enjoyable! I don't know much "talent" is envolved in making a good sculpture, I'm pretty busy with college and stuff so I can't devote alot of time into it.Nick

Okay, after looking at several different pictures of Robert this is what I've come up with so far. I added some mass to both sides of the ears to make it more in line with Rob's. For the nose and chin I looked at some pictures of the CFX sculpt because I liked the way they did the nose and the chin. However, I'm still not satisfied with the way it looks. Something is throwing the whole off, I can immediately point to the chin/jaw and say it doesn't look right. Any suggestions?
