Fiberglass? - SauronTD - 09-20-2009 Ive heard it can damage latex. can anyone tell me exactly what it does? Fiberglass? - frosty - 09-20-2009 I've used fibreglass for armatures for animatronic stuff in the past with no trouble, not head of fibreglass affecting latex.Any metal contact will speed up latex rotting though Fiberglass? - crazydog500 - 09-20-2009 it can damage if the back of the mask is not painted Fiberglass? - Deadguy71 - 09-20-2009 It's a friction thing rather than anything chemical.. For example, on a Jason Mask, if the back of a fiberglass Hockey Mask isn't smoothed out, and also have well-rounded edges, it'll rub away at the latex because there's no "give" to it like there is on a plastic one. As Crazydog pointed out though.. some masks have the fiberglass mat grid partially exposed on the back, which is usually the culprit on a fiberglass/latex problem. Good fiberglass masks DO exist though, as long as the person making it knows what they're doing, and what they need to look out for. My personal preference is ABS, but there's nothing wrong with the fiberglass Hockey Mask I have. Personal taste I guess.
