I don't get why a lot of the people on here don't like 3d films. The last one I saw, My Bloody Valentine worked really well, and I've heard nothing but good reports about avatar. Just wondered why so much hate for it? We should be embracing this technology and looking to seeing what it brings in the future. Possibly films where you can almost literally be part of the action. If it's done well, it's a good thing imo.

Yeah, I really like 3D in movies mostly as long as its used to help tell the story and not steal from it. Like how they used CGI to create the liquid terminator in Terminator 2. They didn't overdo it, or use it for novelty, and it feels really natural in the film and enhances the plot. I saw Pixar's 'UP' in 3D, 'Coraline' in 3D, 'Toy Story' 1 and 2 in 3D, 'My Bloody Valentine 3D', 'Monsters VS Aliens 3D', and some more i can't remember. I wouldn't see any of these movies (besides Toy Story) in 2D instead of 3D given the choice. I just saw 'Up' again at home, and even though i have a nice screen and sound system, it wasn't the same. I didn't feel as engaged as the director intended. As for 'My Bloody Valentine', I liked it in 3D, but it was the only 3D movie that gave me a headache. Maybe it was my theater. But i did like the use of 3D as a novelty in it. It felt at home in the cheesy 80's horror flick homage. But yeah, 3D rocks.

I personally don't get the hate for 3D either... I think it's because like with remakes these days, we are flooded with 3D movies? But, from what I've seen going to these movies, they offer it in 3D or normal (2D) viewing, so if you don't want to bother, you don't have to.

I personally don't like the 3D when the film is made and knows it's in 3D. Apparently Avatar in 3D doesn't have any shot that knows it's being shown in 3D. Example... in the movie Monsters VS Aliens, there are a few shots such as a guy playing with a paddle-ball and the ball flies right at the camera in order for the audience seeing it in 3D to be wowed by it. But when viewed in 2D... the shot just doesn't make any sense. Remember when Jaws 3 was shown in theaters in 3D? Some shots were only meant to have an affect in 3D but when viewed in 2D... it looked just plain stupid (though it looked stupid in 3D already... 2D just made it worse). A film that used 3D really well was Disney's A Christmas Carol. Looked amazing in 2D but the 3D just enhanced the imagry. I don't like it when films break that 4th wall.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the paddle-ball stuff. I don't like it much either. If an entire movie is made, and you break the 4th wall one or two times with no real reason other than you can, it never really looks right. It's like winking at the camera in a serious film. But, then again, most of the movies I've listed aren't really serious films. But that's a good point. I think the reason we are seeing so many 3D films now is because people are discovering it again, and they are going to over-use it until the frenzy dies, and it can be used appropriately. Like synthesizers in the 80's, or auto-tune.

MY only problem with 3D is that the 3D movies are laden with obvious 3D gags. I mean you can not possibly watch the movie in 3D every time you view it, so when you watch it in 2D it doesn't hold up. In a perfect world the 3D gags would be shot twice- one for 3D the other for 2D and the 2D gags inserted in the 2D cut. In short, sometimes watching a 3D movie in 2D it comes off more cheesy than scary/whatever.Now apply that to a poorly produced movie where the 3D is horrible to begin with, now the 2D movie is completely unwatchable.

3d is fine, but it's like theyre forcing EVERY movie down our throats at once. They should span them out a bit more, not mention every new movie or sequel is in 3d. Then it becomes an everyday thing and none stand out.

It's not 3D that I hate, I would not mind them filming a movie and THEN putting it in 3D. What I do mind is them filming 3D things, for the intentions of 3D, such as knife points, "poke shots", and very stupid moves that don't translate well onto a HOME TELEVISION SET.

Do you guys consider Friday the 13th part 3 a cheesy film then?

3d Haters....why? - psychosocial91 - 12-21-2009

I think 3D should emerse you in another world it shouldn't have some stupid stuff coming out of the screen
