Making A Resin Copy Of A Latex Bust? - Michael Price - 12-23-2009 Is this possible? I realize it would probably destroy the original, but if I got a resin copy out of it, I'd be fine with that. I'm not sure it'd be worth the theoretical cost, but I thought I'd see what you guys thought. Anyone know who could do something like this? Making A Resin Copy Of A Latex Bust? - adee - 12-23-2009 Is that what's known as re-casting? Does that sound right? The original maker of the bust is no longer producing them and I was looking to get something a little more 'solid' than latex for display. Making A Resin Copy Of A Latex Bust? - Patsmear - 12-23-2009 It would be frowned at in this hobby if you did. Even if the mold was destroyed it isn't something I would recommend doing.Pat Making A Resin Copy Of A Latex Bust? - adee - 12-23-2009 I guess if the artist gave their permission it would be ok? Making A Resin Copy Of A Latex Bust? - ullilein - 12-23-2009 I think there is a fine line here. making copies of CD's and selling them is illegal however making a copy for your self so you can listen to one and preserve the other is legal. If he owns the orig mask and makes a resin copy to preserve the mask is this really wrong? I mean so long as he is not selling it I don't see an issue. Latex will break down over time where the resin wont...unless you drop it <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"smile.gif\" /> Making A Resin Copy Of A Latex Bust? - SUCKFACE - 12-23-2009 MichaelYou need to make it more clear what mask/bust it is that you are wanting to work on here and what exactly your intention is.Like whats already been said, it is recasting someones work at the end of the day but it's a huge touchy area that needs to be very carefully looked at if you want to be a part of these kind of forums where we all try to protect each other from recasters stealing artists work for their own profit. If you are simply trying to make your item last longer it may be an idea to post pics of it and ask here if there is any other ways to lengthen the life of it. there are a lot of things these days and simple steps in the care of latex that can more than double it life span. Also if you want something more rigid you could always foam line/fill it. Making A Resin Copy Of A Latex Bust? - scabboy - 12-23-2009 I say if it's for personal use, and if you DID do it, I'd make sure the resin copy would have something like "recasted/copy for personal use, not for sale" or something to signify it's not legit. But it is recasting and I doubt any artist would like that... but it is possible. Like what was already said, you can solidify a latex bust. |
