One of my top favorite films ever ! 3 years prior to it's release the story had been done before as an early episode of the Twilight Zone called "The Hitchhiker" and even before that Lucille Fletcher wrote a radio play called also called "The Hitchhiker" that became a Mercury Theater production starring Orson Welles.

yeh i remember that hitchhicker episode and come to think of it they are pretty similar to each other
