Silicone Mask Care - horrorstudent - 08-08-2010
Hello fellow NIGHTOWLers,
I recently purchased my first silicone mask and today when I was showing it to someone I was putting it back on the head CFX sent with it and noticed a tiny hole between the lip and the nostril. It doesn't go all the way through the mask or anything and I'm not sure it's a tear because without any stress on it it is a circle and not a line like a normal tear. I was thinking that it might be where an air bubble proabably formed while they where making it. I just don't want this to turn into a big problem or anything. If it is worth buying my own silicone to fill the small hole I will.
What do you guys think?

The quickest way to fix this is to go to your local Lowes, home depot, or any hardware store that sells caulking supplies. find GE Silicone-I(1)caulk. Make sure you get the one that says clear. Take a tooth pick and stretch the mask so you can see the hole and put a small dab in the hole. Then let the mask return to its normal shape and make sure you smooth and flatten the dab out. and wait 24 hours (its fine to touch and stretch in 2, but 24 is its strongest) and walah its golden again. its good stuff to keep on hand. No prob, should only cost you around 5 or 7 bucks :thumbsup: Just do not use alot. Even though its clear it tends to dry quite glossy, so unless that part of the mask is glossy use as less as you can.

GE Silicone 2 actually is the stuff you want, the 1 is for different applications and might not work so well. Other then that, thedarkone is exactly right, little dab will do ya

Really? Hunh, maybe they're both good then and I'm wrong, I've just always heard to use #2 from Rusty. My mistake then, sorry darkone.

Both essentially will do the same thing but 2 is more flexable. Also lightly clean the area with a bit of rubbing alcohol before applying to ensure proper adhesion :thumbsup:

if you look around every forum everybody talks about using silicone 1 not 2 for silicone mask repair but i really dont know why? i have just used it and it worked verry well but someone as to use verry verry little.I would have to look at both label to see the difference.I always rub the area to repair first using naphta or liter fluid then ad just a little bit of the silicone 1 in the crack using a needle and rub it flat with a little brush dipped in naphta.If done well nobody will never know it was repaired.Worse case scenario someone could even paint over the repaired area using silicone 1 mixed with oil paint and then thined down to a wash using naphta.hope this helps
