Fiberglass Vs Abs - Chainsaw - 06-06-2005 I\'m wondering if some of you may share your thoughts and facts regarding the difference between fiberglass and ABS hockey masks. I\'ve read both arguements that fiberglass will crack....wait...no they won\'t (?). I\'m looking at collecting hockey masks for each Friday and I\'m just curious. I have a part 7 from fiberglassmasks.com (from ebay). I think it looks great. If it\'s more of a personal preference thing, that\'s fine...was just wondering if there were serious differences. For someone who hasn\'t a clue, let\'s hear it...From makers and collectors. Also, let\'s hear some suggestions for the best (most accurate) Hockey Mask makers. I think I\'ve read that Spaz and Mike from this board are makers? Thanks Jason Fiberglass Vs Abs - IbDaToNeGuY - 06-06-2005 from what i know , abs is thinner and looks like it would break right away but is very strong and good to have if you want to keep you collection for a long time . fiberglass on the other hand is alot heavier and becomes brittle after time . if it falls on the floor or hits something hard , chances are you won\'t have a mask anymore . besides they used abs for the movie masks  . mike, Fiberglass Vs Abs - Homicidal#9 - 06-06-2005 well, i can only speak from experience. Every fiberglass mask i own with the exception of just a couple have cracked, chipped or broken in some way or form. One was dropped from about chest level and a chunk of the nose chipped off. Others have cracked at the edges from minimal amounts of stress. Some blame this on the makers of said masks, that they did not make them properly. I don\'t really know. The ABS, on the other hand, have not changed in the slightest. I have dropped them, thrown them, hit with machetes, scrapped along brick walls...etc.. Not a single one of them have cracked or broke in anyway. I hope that helps some. Tommy Fiberglass Vs Abs - Chainsaw - 06-06-2005 Quote:well, i can only speak from experience. Where did you get yours? or at least a couple of them. Fiberglass Vs Abs - Homicidal#9 - 06-06-2005 geez...lets see...NFX, Trioxin245, David Miller Creations, Travsall, Neca, DKNYFX, NO FACE blanks, EFEXALIVE, and a couple more i think. I just cannot remember all of them off the top of my head. Tommy Fiberglass Vs Abs - Homicidal#9 - 06-06-2005 also, please realize you are looking at approximately 10 years worth of collecting for me, I am by no means well off or rich. Hell, i just wish i was middle class. I would be happy with that. Tommy Fiberglass Vs Abs - mike - 06-06-2005 fiberglass can be good if done right which no one does abs can be folded in half and not break yet return to its shape...abs is the best material..as far as best makers thats all on your preference for look style accuracy(if u even care about it) or jsut want a cool looking Hockey Mask without the screen out quality also the amount u wanna spend theres a few palces to go u jsut gotta look best is a word that people dont like or agree with around here u could either be called stupid for picking one or a asskisser..jsut find one u like then buy as long as your happy its cool if others dont like it its not there money that bought it so screw them get what ya likes Fiberglass Vs Abs - Chainsaw - 06-06-2005 Thanks for the input guys. I\'ll be doing some more digging...and a couple of you will probably be getting a pm. Fiberglass Vs Abs - Bloodyaxe - 06-06-2005 Mikes right on, it all depends on YOUR taste, YOUR budget, and availablity of the said product. Fiberglass hockey masks can look amazing and screen accurate if done right, but ABS is really the way to go. If you plan on wearing it definetly ABS. Fiberglass Vs Abs - Krazy Ken - 06-06-2005 My preference is abs just because i think its more accurate and i hang mine on my wall so if one of my fiberglass ones fall it would probably break. Ive owned a few fiberglass and still have 2 and they feel and look good but I think if someone actually did it right fiberglass wouldnt be so risky. As far as who to get the hockey masks from I would suggest going to Mike here on the board to get your hockey masks. Basement Creations is doing some nice hockey masks as well but its all up to you who you want to purchase from. |
