Quick Question - puckface - 04-15-2004 I was wondering if someone knew what the hell was up with my mask. It is a Don Post Myers mask I customized, and it is slowly starting to like.....I dont know......its getting realy sticky, shriviling up, and kinda melting in a way. It is only around the neck and chin. Does anyone know whats up? Quick Question - travsall - 04-15-2004 Dry rot, your mask is pretty much dead, nothin really you can do to stop dry rot. Time to throw it out and get a new one. Quick Question - puckface - 04-15-2004 Yeah, its just a $30 Myers mask I fixed up a lot. It looks good, but I can do another. Just glad I didnt pay too much for the thing. Thanks Travsall Quick Question - corblimey79 - 04-15-2004 Not.......Dun Dun Dun.........DRY ROT * Scream* I hope that never happens to me ![]() Dan Quick Question - travsall - 04-15-2004 With the latex and paints being used today by the indy guys, dry rot really isn\'t an issue. All our collectors mask should last well into out old age, assuming their cared for properly. Your mask is probably getting like that because of what ever custom work you did, probably used spray paint right? Turned the original mask in the movie into a puddle of goo too. Quick Question - puckface - 04-15-2004 No, not at all, I just cut the neck shorter, opened the eyes more, hair sprayed the hair a bit, and put some detail in the cheeks, lips, and under the eyes with a little black/grey face paint. Quick Question - travsall - 04-15-2004 Ah, that was it then, the oil in the face paint and hair spray. Oil reacts very badly with latex, literally eats it over time. If you want to do weathering to the next one, use acrylic paints thinned down with water, sponged on lightly. Quick Question - puckface - 04-15-2004 Oh, thanks, that\'l do it. Thanks for your help. Quick Question - wasniahc - 04-15-2004 Thanks a lot, I\'ve been wondering the exact same thing. I noticed my Don Post Myers mask doing this about a week ago. I hate to just throw it away though. Quick Question - mike - 04-15-2004 also the oil from your face adn hands can rot the mask too, that may be a main reason why the neck and chin are rotting first casue your sweat would drip down, adn your hands grab the neck to put on and off..try some fragrance free talc in the inside after you were it and use a little warm water and soft cloth to clean you mask..maybe its just me or do all DP myers do this i had 3 do this when i was younger lol |
