Distressing Clothing - Soldier48 - 09-19-2005

Hey I was wondering if anyone has any good tips for distressing clothing? I\'m trying to make my Leather Face costume. But I can\'t seem to find the right ways to fade the shirt and make it look dirty.

Mud, Chainsaw Oil, Dirty water, Bury it in the backyard, all that works great.

I thought about putting it in the ground for a week, but I wasn\'t sure if that would be long enough. I want it to look old, but not stink when I\'m working all night at my Haunted House. I used Coffee grounds last year and I ended up stinking like Folgers french roast.

Remake (I should have specified). So far I\'ve taken sand paper to some spots to wear it down, then I burnt some spots with my iron (it\'s Polyester) to a light brown color. I just wished I could find my Airbrush that I lost in my last move.
I\'m adding some pics of what I got so far

spray a bit of brown spray paint from a distance...not to far, just far enough to get it to spray a little all over....and wash the shirt...repeat

I honestly think it looks good as is. The remake shirt wasn\'t to filthy, it was dirty but that was just because of his damp moist basement.

Thanks for all of the help so far. If anyone else has any input that would be great. Yeah His shirt wasn\'t to dirty but it had that old musty look to it. I\'ll tell you the hardest part so far was finding a shirt that somewhat remsembled the movie. I went to like 8 thirft/antique stores looking for one. Hell I was so hopeless I even went to Wal-Mart.

There\'s a site called AUTOMOTIVE WORKWEAR that sells like, the exact shirt he wore in the movie. Cheap to. If you want a link PM me and i\'ll give it to you.
