i was considering joining the navy, been reading up on it etc. and i talked to a guy i grew up with he tried to join the army but since hes bi-polar and on medicine they wouldnt take him, i just finally got a hold of t he navy recruiter guy and he said i\'d have to be off any medicines im on for atleast 6 months before i could, that blows, i could deal with getting off 2 of em but 1 i need for panic attacks, thats the last thing i\'d need while in boot camp lol i\'d get my ass chewed up then

Hey man your health sould be your number 1 priority. Basic Training will be hard enough then to add on the stress on not being on medication is just worst. We have alot of people that develop panic attacks and symptoms like that after they have been in the military for awhile. The stress just doesn\'t stop after Basic Training, it will continue your whole career. But if your dead set on the Military, look at your options and maybe try to remove your meds (At your Doctors discreation) and see how it works out.
But no matter what happens I wish you the best and knowing that you have the drive to protect your country is alot more then many people can say.

Or go with one of the least stressful services, The Air Force. I was in it, and it was almost like summer camp, LoL.
Yes, there is still yelling and such, but seriously, at least back in 1985 it wasn\'t bad. I don\'t know if it has changed much, if any, since then though. Even the physical exercises were mild, compared to other services, such as Army, or even Navy, and forget Marines! Unless you have mental issues! heheheheheh

The Air Force has done a 180 I know because I\'m currently on active duty... We initiated a new PT regimine over a year ago. And don\'t believe to hoopla that we don\'t deploy to dangerous places. Those days are over. But joining was the best thing I could have done. Hell it got me out of Detroit! Every service has it\'s ups and downs though

i was told if i can get off my medication i could join 6 months after that, and cant have nothing to take while at boot camp, and afterwards if i need to go on medication i can, it\'d be cool to see more of the US and the world, and meet other people, maybe find a cool chick since theres none here lol

You know, after hearing so much stuff on the news lately about recruitment being down, that recruiters aren\'t meeting their quotas and such, you\'d think they\'d take almost ANYBODY that wanted to join! Seriously dude, it\'s people like you, that WANT to go in, that they refuse. That just isn\'t right in my book. Especially in these times, I have to wonder if the amount of people going IN, equal the amount leaving, thru retirement or worse, body bags. You would think they\'d be a bit more relaxed about who gets in. It\'s just not right.
My wife is ex-Navy, and is asking me to ask you about anything to do with a Medical Waiver? Sometimes that might work. I joined the Air Force back in 85, like I said, with them having FULL knowledge of me having asthma, and I still got in. It was a prior injury to my knee, that blew out while marching one morning, that got me out. I tried and tried to stay in, but they were having none of that, and off I went, back home.
My wife also wants to know if you\'re signed up for Delayed Entry? Because if that is the case, after so much time has passed, you might have to go thru everything you\'ve done so far, again.

I understand where your coming from bro. I was going to join the navy but they wouldnt take me because of my high blood pressure. I guess its a good thing i didnt go though, right after i got rejected my kydneys shut down completely and now i\'m on dialysis. I see Bull\'s point of view , it really doesnt make sense why the service is being so picky about who they recruit when they need recruits so badly.

i havnt asked them anything about the waiver stuff, a friend of mine didnt mention he had asthma and went into the air force, all the recruiter told me when i called him was get off the medicine for 6 months, then come talk to them, so im not sure what else they can say about it, if i liked my dad i\'d talk to him cause hes in the navy reserve but cant ask him nothin without getting put down, so im tryin to ask others that are in or have been in, the recruiter may call m etomorrow cause i signed up on navy.com for them to call me sometime on friday, maybe whoever talks to me will be a little more helpful then whoever i called lol, thanks for the help guys on this i appreciate it
