This post is a perfect example:<a href=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/index.php?showtopic=25988&st=0\" target=\"_blank\">http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/index.php?sh...=25988&st=0</a>Do you own a high end or rare mask? If so do you feel compelled to sell it, sometimes at a price cut, to someone else within our mask collecting community? Or are you fine just selling it to an anonymous highest bidder on ebay.Do you think about what your peers may think of you if you ever thought of altering your collectible mask?Is it just a concern of resale value or is it something bigger? Are we the owners of these masks? or just the keepers? My personal story is as follows:I finally was able to get my Dog Will Hunt choptop bust that I had been chasing for months. I had it already set in my mind that when I got one I would get it signed by Bill Moseley. But when the time came I could hardly bring myself to do it. I almost felt like "Who am I to decide to have this signed." Sure I paid for it straight up. No court in the land could ever say I didn't own it and have right to do what ever I wanted with it. But for some strange reason it was like it was on loan to me.Long story short I got it signed by Bill Mosley and Tom Savini, and to me makes it the rarest of the DWH bust, but I'm sure no one else would agree.Thoughts?

I'm new to mask collecting, but not new to collecting all sorts of other crap. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"wink.gif\" /> I prefer to sell to members of forums that I visit over ebay to keep collectibles in the family. I see no problem with altering anything you own if it brings you more enjoyment of the item. Sure, if there are only 25 of an item on existence, your modification not only changed the "value" of yours, but also the other 24. Whether that is good or bad will be in the eyes of the owner or potential buyer. If the item is to be sold, full disclosure of what what modified should be given to the purchaser to make sure those modifications are within their tolerances. What if you were to come across an original Kirk '75 mask. Would you modify it? Would you proudly display it as is? Either decision you make will piss off someone who thinks the opposite.Remember, these are just objects, in the grand scheme of things objects are just that, objects to be admired.

I purchase masks or busts that I intend to keep for a lifetime. If there is something that I liked about a certain look of the mask and I feel that I could improve it I will not hesitate to raise a paintbrush.I never worried about the value as I have no intention of selling the piece. If you are comfortable and have a certain degree of talent I have no problem altering a collectible.
