My First Sculpt - ahellborn - 08-08-2008 hey guys, i just started this last night and its not done, but i figured id take a break for a bit and see if anyone had some pointers for me, and opinions on it so far. keep in mind that this is the first sculpt i have ever done, and i have not taken any classes, read any books, or watched any videos on it <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\" ![]() ![]() ![]() My First Sculpt - ahellborn - 08-08-2008 [attachment=27638 ![]() My First Sculpt - shadowmyst - 08-08-2008 <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"ohmy.gif\" /> I'm not expert, but that looks freakin' awesome! You haven't read or watched ANYTHING? I'm even more encouraged to start sculpting after seeing this. Is that the monstermakers armature? By the way, what clay did you use?PS. Theres a really good fx forum that I just registered with, http://www.theeffectslab.com/forums They have TONS of tutorials and people who are pros and newbies who could give you advice. If you join post your sculpt under the "Sculpture Study".I also just got done a few hours ago watching Mark Alfrey's "Sculpting The Human Head" Really informative. Good Luck! My First Sculpt - IbDaToNeGuY - 08-08-2008 lookin pretty good so far considering it's your first sculpture . i know alot of people will be saying this so i'll just get it out of the way , work on form first before detailing it . try to sculpt a Robert England first so you have the right shape and form and then go in with the " freddy " detail . doing that first can only get worse and then you have to start all over which would not be fun . but one other thing to keep in mind is take your time . don't rush anything and use as many refrences as you can to get the right look you are after . mike, My First Sculpt - ahellborn - 08-08-2008 <!--quoteo(post=270785:date=Aug 7 2008, 10:55 PM:name=IbDaToNeGuY)<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE(IbDaToNeGuY @ Aug 7 2008, 10:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
<div class=\'quotemain\'><!--quoteclookin pretty good so far considering it's your first sculpture . i know alot of people will be saying this so i'll just get it out of the way , work on form first before detailing it . try to sculpt a Robert England first so you have the right shape and form and then go in with the " freddy " detail . doing that first can only get worse and then you have to start all over which would not be fun . but one other thing to keep in mind is take your time . don't rush anything and use as many refrences as you can to get the right look you are after . mike,<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEndya i did just a form at first instead of a robert england form, i may not keep this one for it is mainly for practice but if or when i start over then i will surely start with a robert form. thanks for that tho i didnt even think of that. Good Luck!<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEndlol thats the dvd i have on order. but i only have a week befor i go back to work so i decided to just start off as well. ill look into that forum too tho. My First Sculpt - shadowmyst - 08-08-2008 One question though, if you were aiming to make a mask you wouldn't want to make it based on Robert's form. Because it wouldn't fit very well unless you had a small head, am I wrong? My First Sculpt - ahellborn - 08-08-2008 i suppose, but you could do a larger form of him, its just to get the more realistick or movie like look to it if you start off makeing it look like him. My First Sculpt - Spade - 08-08-2008 Just be sure to take your time and don't rush it. But I do like what I see so far. It's looking very nice and the fact that it's only your first sculpt is crazy. My First Sculpt - shadowmyst - 08-08-2008 You might also want to look into Mark Alfrey's "Sculpting Movie Monsters". By the way, what kind of clay did you use and how much did you buy? I've been told to buy a whole case but that would cost me $179!Thanks |
