Axe I Am Working On - sirbrad - 08-15-2008 I modified my axe for this year, which looked pretty cool as it was:(Old Costume)But I thought it looked a little too "new" to use for my new blood remake. So I weathered it some. I used acrylics, sandpaper, mod podge for the wet look on the blood, cardboard from cereal boxes, and electric tape. The paint works well, but will wear off if touched a lot on the thicker areas. What could I use to seal it without making it look glossy? Mod podge is fine on the blood areas as I wanted it wet, but want the dirty/brown/black areas to look drier. Would acrylic sealer matte work? It does take a lot to get it off though, but it is not fully dry. I had to seal the cardboard with mod podge to waterproof it. The bright lighting here shows some of the electric tape outlining up close, but cannot be seen in regular light or far away. Also the camera does not capture all the details, and makes it seem "brighter" than it is. I may add some hair glued to the axe to make it look super nasty. But to give you an idea: Axe I Am Working On - sirbrad - 08-15-2008 Axe I Am Working On - IbDaToNeGuY - 08-15-2008 looks much better now . i don't care much for that " new " look all that much but i really like how it is now <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" /> mike, Axe I Am Working On - sirbrad - 08-15-2008 Should go great with my new blood remake. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"biggrin.gif\" /> Axe I Am Working On - sirbrad - 08-15-2008 <!--quoteo(post=271961:date=Aug 15 2008, 12:12 PM:name=IbDaToNeGuY)<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE(IbDaToNeGuY @ Aug 15 2008, 12:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
<div class=\'quotemain\'><!--quoteclooks much better now . i don't care much for that " new " look all that much but i really like how it is now <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" /> mike,<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEndYeah I like it a lot now too. I held the blade so you could see the details and the light reflecting off of it, otherwise all you see is black with red on it in pics lol. It looks so real and like it was used in a brutal murder out in the rain and mud. Under dimmer light and at medium range, it is very sinister looking. Just thought it was too clean before to go with this costume, but I knew I was not finished with it. Even when it looked new, the few who seen it asked "is that real?" Wait till this year. <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" /> But yeah I just wanted to be sure I could make one first and to see it if held up. So now it is almost finished. I will test the paint in a few days. Another reason I did not use it is because the handle was just too slick to hold with my mesh like gloves, even sanded, but the tennis grip and tape I put on solves that now. Axe I Am Working On - Jluck - 08-15-2008 great job man. i like it much better all nasty like that. Axe I Am Working On - sirbrad - 08-15-2008 I'll post another pic holding it around Halloween with my new blood and Jason lives costumes. Also with my part 8 in which this was originally intended for. But after seeing the one in part 7, I got motivated to make it for that part. Although a shorter handle would be more comfortable, but this one looks very intimidating and I cannot wait to see all the eyes on it in the parades. I wish I did not have florescent lighting and a clearer camera. I wonder if I could mold the head somehow and make them out of foam latex? Would make making them a lot easier than using cardboard and construction paper. Axe I Am Working On - Jluck - 08-15-2008 " I wonder if I could mold the head somehow and make them out of foam latex? "i'd use the foam rubber instead like used for stunt props to avoid injury to actors/stuntmen etc...last alot longer than the foam latex. Axe I Am Working On - Homicidal#9 - 08-15-2008 molding the head of the axe is extremely easy to do. I have done it with axe heads and various blades in the past. Just make a two part mold of it and make sure to use vaseline or dish liquid as a release agent....then you can pour up copies to your liking....foam or stuff them...and paint to your liking.take care,Tommy Axe I Am Working On - wickedbeard - 08-16-2008 pretty cool axe bro.Very inventive with cardboard. Here is my little axe that I carry in my remake sheath.I did not weather it much.i kinda like the metal look.I made it from sheet metal and an old tennis racket handle.Cost=99 cents.lol |
