When I first read your original post I said to myself.... ummm, no brainer job #2. But seriously start #1 if they hire you and don't feel bad about leaving if you get something in your field and have to leave. Look out for yourself man. I'm also in PC/Network support and there are some great steady jobs out there w/ awesome benefits! Wishing you the best of luck dude!-Chad

Tough Job Decision! Interview Update! - The Boogeyman - 05-18-2007

I would take job 1, go to the interview for job 2 say nothing of job 1, and if job 2 calls you back then I would go to job 1 and say, sorry man but this just isn't working out. its quiting in a not so assholyish way.thats what I would do.

Tough Job Decision! Interview Update! - JigSaw - 05-18-2007

I don't know much about work, and what you should or shouldn't say.But I think you should take Job #1 first, and then Job #2 as everyone said. But after working a couple of days that you need with #1, tell them a job has come up that is exactly what you wanted.I don't know, but it seems that is the safest route to go. Just don't go to job 1, then job 2 and decided you liked job 1 <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"laugh.gif\" />

I think everyone has already nailed right on the head what you should do. You gotta look out for yourself sometimes. Good luck on getting job number 2....it'll be nice to do something you love to do. Again best of luck.

Tough Job Decision! Interview Update! - Macleod - 05-18-2007

Yeah man like everyone said. If job#2 decides to hire you after you're already working at job #1, tell'em something came up and that you have to quit. Job #2 is your dream job plus they'll pay you better, so there's no reason for you to be stuck all summer shoveling dirt under the sun. But whatever you do at the interview, do not tell them about job #1. Good Luck with the interview.

Tough Job Decision! Interview Update! - Martoch - 05-18-2007

It was a very typical interview...where do you see yourself in 5 years, what are your strengths/weaknesses, etc. Following the interview, she gave me a tour of the facility, to include the room where I would be working if I get hired. She introduced me to [u]every[/i] IT person in the building along the way. She introduced me to the head Network Engineer and left me with him...he gave me a tour of all of the IT equipment, from their PC test bench to their server room and explained how each one integrates with the other. He explained what my duties would be and answered all of my questions. I was told that I would hear something very soon about the position. My question is...do you think they would give me a complete tour of the building, to include my potential IT coworkers, if they really didn't plan on hiring me?While I was in the interview, job #1 called and said that they wanted to integrate some of my computer skills into their Environmental work when it comes to their GPS systems, so I wouldn't be a "shovel boy" all that much. She really wants me to come in Monday morning to get started. I guess I'll just go in as if I'm going to work there and if job #2 calls (the IT job), I'll just explain that I interviewed a while back and didn't expect to hear from them, so I was pressing forward with finding a job with them. Hopefully they won't really be all that upset about it as it was supposed to be just a temp position.
