Really Good Question.... - Jason Fan - 08-27-2007 Oh my life's been a living hell from my parents since I got into this in 2003. I've nearly given up on collecting because It gets old to say, "Look at this mask i got Dad!" [Im 18] and to hear in responce, "Joey masks are stupid, i don't care". But it makes me happy so screw anyone else. LOL Really Good Question.... - Earl - 08-27-2007 I get it all the time also. People think it's weird. I'm 36 yrs old, I'm married with four kids. My wife gives me shit over it everytime a new mask shows up at the house. Really Good Question.... - Seabass - 08-27-2007 Well, I myself am a religeous person, and every October we have a "Barn Party" here on the farm where I live and invite the church out just to hang out and eat. Well, some friends and I usually put on a haunt for the hayride. Some people don't particularly like it. Last year I dressed up as leatherface with a chainsaw of course and I had body parts and gore all around. <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"biggrin.gif\" /> The kids and younger people always love it. People don't always agree with it, but people tell me I am creative and talented. I do it because I enjoy it and people my age enjoy it. I love scaring the crap out of people <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" /> There is nothing wrong with it. Just because I have this hobby does not mean I am a "sinful" person. I have learned that you can't please everyone and as long as you arent harming yourself or others, its ok. My girlfriend hates my masks and hates horror movies (I she is scared to death of them) so that makes things interesting as well lol. She understands and supports my interests though, so its all good.I love coming here and sharing my hobby with good people like you who have the same interests. Thanks guys <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"biggrin.gif\" /> Really Good Question.... - PREMATURE INKER - 08-27-2007 WOW!!..I am glad you giuys have responded so well..EARL?...I guess you'll have to hear it again soon..wink wink!..lol.keep them comin.J. Really Good Question.... - The Death Curse - 08-27-2007 Anyone who would look down on a person who loves to learn about and collect movie props, costumes, and replicas of those creations obviously doesn't have much respect for art. And I don't associate with people who don't respect art. Those people are usually tasteless, mindless zombies who've been brainwashed by religious extremists and the general tendency of our society to be hypocritical of other people who don't share the same views as themselves.I love collecting pieces of the movies that are closest to my heart, and through the last eight years of collecting both replicas and original props, I've learned that you should only buy what makes YOU happy and who cares about everyone else...If I think a rotting piece of foam appliance is the coolest !$@%ing thing since sliced bread, then my mom's, family's, friends', co-workers', president's, or even DOGS' opinions don't matter one damn bit. In fact, whenever I do get a new piece, I usually just take a few pictures to show my online buddies and a few other collectors, then wrap it in plastic bags, place it back in its box, and store it safely inside my closet. I even bought a bookshelf a couple of weeks ago to display some of my stuff on, but I still feel like leaving most of my masks and foam props in the closet because we rarely have company, and my lady and I are probably the only people who will see (or care about) those pieces, anyway.Cheers,Ryan Really Good Question.... - SuperDanDrista - 08-27-2007 who cares? Really Good Question.... - erikthephantom - 08-27-2007 Nope not really ashamed, just people ask me all the time if i'm not a little to old and stuff <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"<_<\" border=\"0\" alt=\"dry.gif\" /> Mostly cause my collection is mostly figures and only 2 masks <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\" ![]() Really Good Question.... - Savage - 08-27-2007 <!--QuoteBegin-Earl+Aug 26 2007, 09:04 PM<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE(Earl @ Aug 26 2007, 09:04 PM)</div><div class=\'quotemain\'><!--QuoteEBeginI get it all the time also. Now i can collect whatever i like without getting any earache! I've always been into collecting hockey masks since i was a kid, I never tire of looking at them as i am a huge fan of the F13th movies! you should collect whatever you like, without worrying about what others may say or think about it! I hate walking into someone's house and seeing the same old boring crap like ornaments, plants and vases filled with flowers! At least what we do is very cool and very unique. Everyone loves it really, they're all just too scared to admit it. "Inside everyone of us there is a darkside...We're just consumed by it!!!"...Yeah!!...SO WHAT?????!!!!!!! Really Good Question.... - Ruste Dowg - 08-27-2007 I worry about the effect it might have on my kids but then again they are used to seeing my masks and the full size myers and it don't really bother them, i like to think it will make them understand that a these are not things to be scared of and that they are guys in masks and suits and not real monsters. My nine year old is taking a real interest in mask making and is making anything he can from old junk, it's good to see him being creative rather then sitting in front of the TV.Good topic of discussion J <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" /> Really Good Question.... - Vanilla Ice......Cream - 08-27-2007 My family is extremely supportive of my hobby. But then again,my dad and I watch horror movies together all the time, and he collects Harley Davidson memorabila and motorcycles,so he knows the feeling you get when getting in a new score. And my mom can tell apart a NMM78 from a Psycho,I think that says enough about how supportive they are. <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"thumbsup.gif\" /> |
