Because most of todays posters and cover art is technically not what I'd consider "art" art, ya know? Covers like the original Paramount Friday the 13th films, The Nightmare on Elmstreet series, Evil Dead, Halloween, Maniac, Texas Chainsaw, etc etc. Those were all actual paintings and whatnot. Today there are mostly cool photographs which is obviously the better marketing tool, but not as original. It's just not the same anymore....<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEndYeah, to much photoshopping posterart nowadays. Like when Paramount replaced the F13 5-8 covers with that ugly computer-made shit. That really pissed me of.

Sometimes I'd rather the posters be plain and simple like they used to be. As crazy at is is, sometimes the posters reveal more about the movie than the trailer itself can. I miss just hearing about a movie and gawking at how cool the poster in front of the theatre was. Sure, its cool for some posters to be very graphic for collecting puroses after the movie is released, but it's getting a bit out of hand now. For instance, the one sheet for RZ's Halloween basically showed each persons death scene in the picture itself. That kinda ruined it for me. I miss the earlier Friday posters most. When all it said was "Friday the 13th part 2, 3, 4, 5" etc. Plain and simple and leaving the rest to surprise.

Those are great, Alexander! Thanks for sharing. Gotta love the 80's.And yes, original paintings are what makes the best cover art. Here's a new 70's/80's style poster for the upcoming film Perkins 14 (part of After Dark Horrorfest 3) that I really dig:I also really like this poster for The Strangers:

Good to hear that Richard. The Strangers poster gives me a deja vu feeling. I think I've seen something similar from a late 70's/early 80's movie somewhere.
