if it's an onboard sound card...and with it being an emachines I am 99% sure that it is...and it is not recognizing it even being there, then it is shot. Sounds like you are gonna have to get a new sound card.take care,Tommy

That's no problem. They are cheap from Best Buy, Tiger Direct, etc. You just need an open PCI or PCIe slot.

Thanks for the help guys. Very much appreciated!!! I have a few more questions, everytime I log on to my computer, I keep getting a message the says "Found New Hardware. Windows needs to install driver software for your Unknown Device." I tried installing it but every time I do it say in was unsuccessfull. Also as I said my PC won't let me do a System Restore anymore either. This all happend when Windows updated yesterday.

Ok so my sister got my computer working like normal again but every time I turn off my computer, it automatically Updates Windows and after it updates, the sound no longer works and the only way I can restore the computer is in Safe Mode. I know it important to keep your PC updated but is there anything that can be done?

While your sound is working....In your IE browser click on Tools, Windows Updates.Click view available updates and see exactly what is checked to be installed. If there is anything audio/driver related there uncheck it and then proceed to install the rest.It could be the conexant audio driver update that is causing the issue or something related. You may also have the option to ask it not to remind you for that particular update again.Best of luck!=C=

It sounds to me like you're losing them just in the process of rebooting alone. You probably have an onboard sound card attached to your motherboard, which means if you've already installed the latest sound drivers, a problem lies within the hardware itself. You should try a BIOS update to your system board if you haven't done so already. Look online for the latest version. If that doesn't work, I highly suggest buying a sound card and putting it into the machine. This will solve your problem and is relatively cheap and easy to install. Just do some homework and find out if you need the AGP version, PCI, PCI-e, etc.
