Hi, New To The Forum... Sample Of Latest Paint Up - Jasonlivessince1980 - 07-25-2009

Hello again,I had a request from someone to repost my step-by-step for this mask from frightstuff.com... here it is:<!--QuoteBegin-"Jasonlivessince1980"+<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE ("Jasonlivessince1980")
<div class=\'quotemain\'><!--QuoteEBeginHi allSo its taken me a while but I've finally finished and wanted to share some progress photos. My aim was to get the closest I could to the original "hero" or "barn scene" mask seen through most of part 3. I studied the handfull of non-screen photos and over 40 screen caps from part 3 showing the mask at every conceivable angle. After 4 months of labor, this is what I came up with...1. Ordered a clear .060 blank kit from Ken... he drilled most of it, I did the eyes myself, very carefully over a 2 week period until they looked as perfect as I could get them. (Sorry no clear pics)2. After taping off all the holes, sprayed the back with Krylon Dover White (leaving tape over Ken's signature and the ID #) and the front with Buttercream (I had earlier sprayed with sandshell bought from an auto paint site, but was dissatisfied with the result). Looked so perrty I almost didn't want to weather it.3. After I moved to D.C. in June, I began weathering, sandpapering off spot on forehead and areas on nose and mouth with 320 grit. After that I started doing the "crackle" damage using a super sharp no. 2 pencil, using the photo from the cover of The Final Chapter, and two other non-screen photos I found on posts here on the forum. The process was painstaking because I was going for a nearly microscopic degree of accuracy in areas where crackle was visible in the original photos but I was VERY pleased with the result. I filled in the rest with a little imagination...Pardon the crappy photos, my camera sucks. Doing the crackle also outlined for me precisely where the chevrons would be placed, which meant less sticking and resticking to satisfy my anal-retentiveness later <img src=\"style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"wink.gif\" /> 4. Once all crackle was complete, it was time for the acrylic accents... I mixed a combination of Titanium Buff and Burnt Umber Light to get a real muddy look and added accents over their corresponding areas in the crackle. They came out very noticeable on the forehead, so next time I might tone down the color and opt for a more subtle effect, but overall I was happy with it.5. I sealed with Krylon matte finish and had some issues with real crackling, which I sanded off for the most part. It still looks sweet... then I washed in the bathroom sink with the aforementioned acrylic colors and some Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide. It came out nice and dirty, but a little too rusty-colored for some reason, so I acetoned about half of it off until it brought out the accents nicely.6. I weathered with pastels and rubbed the powder into the areas I studied in the non-screen photos... challenging because it kept coming off where I was handling it, and I was running out of places to touch it.7. After rubbing through the basecoat with acetone, I peeled off an area with my fingernail that I had outlined for the "swipe mark" on the right cheek (as you look at it), revealing the grayish-white paint underneath. The effect is pretty cool. I then carefully added the Chevrons to get a nearly finished product:Only needs a final clear coat. Hopefully Richard Brooker will buy this and take it to conventions and claim its the real thing. LOL. I had him sign the back too at Monster Mania last month. Well thanks for viewing, I really had a lot of fun doing this, can't wait to do a part 6 and some other stuff soon... also thanks to everyone that has helped out and given me advice over the past four months. I also wouldn't mind doing commissions, but only on part 3's until I learn how to do the others. Cheers!<!--QuoteEnd
<!--QuoteEEnd
