An Observation On A Recurring Trend - EverythingJason - 11-09-2004 Nice topic William, here are my two cents. I personally buy a mask only if I really like it, that means it has to really impress me the first time I see it and if it does, I will buy it with the intention to keep it for as long as the latex holds. Sure there are nice pieces coming out on a monthly basis, but even though they are nice, they just don\'t appeal to me as a collectors piece. What I really don\'t like and turns me off right away from buying a mask is when one person makes a mask that hasn\'t been done before and it looks amazing, about a month later another two or three guys make the "same" piece again instead of coming up with a different mask. Sure it will not look the same most of the time (depending if it was the artists own take on the piece), but in my opinion 80% of the time it floods the market and takes the value away from the previously released piece. That brings me to my next point. Personally I think masks or busts should definitely increase in price if they are "out of print" and of course high quality pieces. To me I don\'t see any sense in spending almost twice the price of a mask buying it from a collector and having it at your doorstep in two weeks when you can buy the same piece from the artist brand spanking new for a fraction of the price. Why make another persons collection bigger by dishing out hundreds of dollars when you could have spend the same money buying two pieces for your own collection? That I don\'t understand. I would rather wait the extra time knowing that I spend my money wisely than knowing that I just spend 200 bucks on a mask that I could have had for 80. But then again, I am married and have to work with a budget for my collecting habits and just can\'t dish out the money for each and every mask that comes out. An Observation On A Recurring Trend - englundisgod - 11-09-2004 i have noticed this also bob and don of mm are really letting their prices go there alot cheaper **im not complaining*** An Observation On A Recurring Trend - WilliamAbuJannah - 11-09-2004 nicely put EverythingJason. An Observation On A Recurring Trend - WarLocK - 11-09-2004 Personally I think you\'re comparing apples and oranges. Comparing a CS H8 mask to the KH just doesn\'t make sense when it comes to resale value. The CS H8 mask is mass produced and very few people have interest in it. The KH/DW on the other hand is very limited and signed by Dick Warlock himself...not to mention the demand is very high. On top of that the quality and craftmanship is superb compared to a majority of other independent Myers we\'ve seen. If someone asked me to get them a CS H8 mask I\'d say sure no prob. However, I could easily spend a year looking for someone to let go of their KH. Therefore it\'s value is substantially more than it was upon original release. An Observation On A Recurring Trend - goaliehack - 11-09-2004 Well if everyone sold there masks for MORE and everyone bought them for no wait, in a lot of ways it would throw the hobby off. Everyone would be buying second hand rather then ordering from the maker. Another thing, a lot of these high priced masks were very limited it chad said, and people want to keep them. But for a price, everything is for sale. Then of course offers are made, and it sets the bar of the mask value. Then of course the time of year makes a great big difference too, usually higher in october and at the start of december. Also, a lot of people lower the price of a mask such as an H8 because most of the time they need the money on hand. Sure they may be able to get 50 for it, but that could take some waiting. So you make it 35 and sell it right off the bat no waiting..... An Observation On A Recurring Trend - RCuomo 2.0 - 11-10-2004 A mask is ONLY worth what a person will pay for it... simple as that... no ifs ands or buts.... Cheers Steven |
