Arizona's Immigration Law - killerpsychomask - 07-19-2010 I'm all for following good sound laws that control and monitor immigration, but the Arizona law is pure and simply racist and should offend you. It's bypassing it. States don't have the right to supersede Federal Law, hence our Constitutional Federal System. The Immigration Law is violating the U.S. Constitution in conflicting with the Supremacy Clause, as well as the 14th, 4th, and 1st Amendments. I'm not making this sh*t up. If this was as clear cut an issue as most of you are making it to be, it would cease to be controversial and wouldn't make the news. Arizona's Immigration Law - stainboy - 07-19-2010 Additionally, computer-generated poster jokes (like the one posted in this thread) aim to simplify the issue by demeaning/ridiculing one side and ignoring the Constitutional facts. What I get a kick out of, is that every forum I belong to, aims to minimize if not completely eradicate political discussions, due to "avoiding tension." The reality of it, is that these threads always ends up being a battle between people who are well-read and people who just watch a lot of TV. I'm not saying I'm pro,nor anti-Arizona Immigration Law, either. I'm just merely pointing out that this issue is layered with complex Constitutionality issues, and is NOT simply a matter of whether or not illegal aliens can enter this country. Arizona's Immigration Law - mpetrie - 07-19-2010 I just want the government to enforce its own laws. For WAY too long the government has allowed millions to flow over the border and suppress wages. My full-time job is maintaining a caseload where 95% of my cases have illegals on them so I personally witness the "underground" system that exists among this community, the wages paid under the table, the identity thefts that are very prevalent, the forged documents, etc. It's a large problem and needs to be dealt with NOW. The government has sat on its hands for FAR too long. Arizona's Immigration Law - Jasonlivessince1980 - 07-20-2010 bravo stainboy, couldn't agree more. i would only add that trying to label people as "racists" doesn't add much to an honest debate. its redundant to say american political discourse has degenerated into mud slinging, inappropriate/ill-informed snap judgments and sweeping generalities, but i'll say it again. it still is. Perhaps this case will be nothing but the bellringer to review our unenforced Federal laws...however, I do still believe in a separation of state and federal powers. Thanks buddy! Arizona's Immigration Law - EVOL - 07-21-2010 I am for the law. I think they need to tighten the situation down there since there so close to the boader with all that's going on in Mexico. The federal government should of been helping the sate out not punishing them for enforcing a law. That really does get to me that the government is causing problems for Arizona when there just trying to protect the US citizens from what's going on in Mexico. My cousin and his family live there and I wouldn't want to have anything happen to them. Arizona's Immigration Law - killerpsychomask - 07-21-2010 Just to be clear, I referred to the AZ law as racist, not any people. As I said, I support fair and sound immigration laws and their enforcement. But the question was specifically about the AZ law and it asks citizens to racially profile their neighbors. AZ has an enormous legal Hispanic population and the law is clearly offensive to them and me as a US citizen. I, like most everyone else here except people of American Indian ancestry, are here due to immigration at some point in our histories. This is the least racially pure country on the planet and surprisingly for many, that is and has been one of it's chief strengths. |
