December 23, 2012 - WestlakeDarkman - 12-20-2007 It's probably just when they'll need to make a new calendar. Anyway end or no end I'm not scared. I'm finishing my Master's Degree in History in April and I'll tell you that every generation since the beginning of time has predicted that the end of the world will come within their own respective lifetime. People who interpret oracles that are dated thousands of years old and are transcribed in ancient languages with completely different dialects have to remember that meanings and interpretations are elusive. It's just like the damn, stupid Nostradamus predictions. All of his "supposed predications" have been proven to be wildly vague and inconclusive. Contemporary interpreters of Nostradamus often merely read coded text and unconsciously interpret them as prophetic. Why would they do this?Because it sells books.I'll tell you this: the bottomline is that there are two types of people pushing this never-ending "apocalyptic bullshit" and it's:1) People who can somehow (either directly or indirectly) make money off of it, and/or....2) Any type of religious person who (either directly or indirectly) wants society to be guilted and/or scared into acting morally and spiritually-conscious within their lifetime (i.e. before the supposed day arrives!)In other words, it's a bunch of money-grubbing or religious nutjobs pushing this crap. <!--coloro:#FFFF00<!--/coloro<!--sizeo:3<!--/sizeo<!--fonto:Impact<!--/fontoAnd yes, this includes the Mayans. I'm glad I'm not the only one on the board who thinks like this.As Carl Sagan once said, "We have to put all of this pseudo-science behind us. The real science is out there waiting, and it's as exciting as ever." December 23, 2012 - Jason Fan - 12-20-2007 Hey! I'm full Mayan Indian blood there buddy. We're not all dead. We mayans have helped build your guy's calendars, invented the number zero and have accurately recorded Venus' movements up to now. We even got the part right where the earth will complete a full tilt on its axis in 2012 and i believe we predicted those up coming solar flares too. I don't believe in it, but did happen well, i guess there's no stopping it so eh. lol December 23, 2012 - Barzo 19 - 12-20-2007 if UFO's actually do come....that will be pretty f'd up.....hell, just make the aliens look decent and not big eyed and greyish...maybe there could actually be a.....AVP war....or something along those lines....whoever wins...we lose..Chris December 23, 2012 - stainboy - 12-20-2007 <!--quoteo(post=248940:date=Dec 20 2007, 03:11 AM:name=Jason Fan)<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE(Jason Fan @ Dec 20 2007, 03:11 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
<div class=\'quotemain\'><!--quotecHey! Seriously, no offense to the Mayans of modern day...(that's not what I intended...) I'm just saying no scientific theory supports the end of the world currently and ancient Mayan predictions hold no more weight for me than my Uncle Harold's prediction that his life will end by slipping on a gumball. But if you are serious in assuming the wildly vague and incredulous Mayan prediction, do me this favor:Bet me.You can bet me your entire mask collection. Because if the world is ending, you risk nothing, right? Not all aspects of earlier cultures should be dismissed as primitive and not somehow related to our world today.Personally, I don't see how that Mayan prediction changes anything. If it happens, then we all die and there's nothing left to worry about. If it doesn't, then we go on with our lives. The fact is, any of us could go at any minute...and that's why we should live life to the fullest and make sure the people around us know how much we care about them. Not because the Mayans told me the end of the world is near. December 23, 2012 - JOEY - 12-20-2007 I challenge you STAINBOY!!! No one messes with Nostradamus. I'm joking of course. December 23, 2012 - SuperDanDrista - 12-20-2007 Ya and the show Sightings said that they were going to make T-shirts saying, "I survived 1995." This happens all the time...it's all a bunch of superstitious BS. You would think people get upset when the world DOESN'T end. Idiots LOL December 23, 2012 - dean7879 - 12-20-2007 the gregorian calender is 5 years out. so technically the year is 23rd 2007 where things are expected to happen |
