boy I've been at this all day. Comparing and analyzing and now have a headache that'd drop a brontosaurus.BUT - I have made my decision:Samsung LN52A650 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTVNow I just need to find one New for under $1800.00 anyone know where to go online for the cheapest prices? I've done a couple low price searches but with unsatisfactory results. Some of these stores' prices - jeez! You'd think we were in the green with the national deficit with an all time low in unemployment. Anyway, thanks again, guys. You were most informative about all this and it was a BIG help. I thank you.

When I was shopping for my LCD television, I went through 3 different models from different manufacturers before I got one that didn't exhibit any problems. The main issues that I had were clouding and vertical banding, which are both common on LCD TVs. The problem is that the severity of these issues can vary from panel to panel from horrible to nearly perfect. It was hard enough lugging the things back to the store every time. I don't even want to imagine the headache involved in shipping the television back if there is a problem.

The current line-up of Panasonic plasmas are brilliant TV's. They offer the best contrast, color, refresh rate, and overall picture quality for the best price. Now, if you are set on LED's, then there is a little information about the different technologies. The newest is LED Edge backlit LCD's, which use LED light sources instead of the CFFL backlights found in regular LCD's. They are only 1.2 inches thick and offer the same picture quality as mid to high end LCD's. Samsung has these coming out this month. The second newest is LED local dimming LCD's, which has an array of LED's behind the screen that can individually dim in order to achieve a better "black level", which is actually the feature I look for most in a TV. The Samsung 9-series and Sony XBR8 offer this technology. And the only other LED I know about is OLED, which stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode. These televisions are only available in smaller sizes right now, but are going to be manufactured in larger sizes starting this year. These TV's have the best contrast ratios and colors available. The screens are usually only 1 mm thick. They are expensive though, and only last somewhere around 32,000 hours. In my personal opinion, Panasonic plasma is the best choice because they offer great black levels, true to life colors, and some of the fastest refresh rates. I work as an electronics salesman, and don't mind taking the hit for selling the cheaper plasmas because I know that the customer is getting the best possible television for their money.
