Unlike most Fiberglass makers, I use mesh cloth rather than loose fibers. For sanding, I use wet sandpaper under running water, works fine. Or you could use the dust mask for this process also. I see the risk being about as much as spray paint residue, I know all painters use a mask when painting, right? Anyway, when proper ventilation is used Fiberglass is the only way to go. (When done right!) IMO. Wanted: Hock Blanks - Bear - 02-05-2005 Quote:I got marijuana resin in my lungsShoudn\'t you also advise some of our younger members that marijuana is illegal and could screw up the rest of your life like my hockey masks? Wanted: Hock Blanks - Bear - 02-05-2005 Quote:ya Gary i got that too LOL... but i figured you knew i jsut wanted to describe to everyone what needs to be done..fiberglass jsut isnt worth the hazards as well as over a few years it becomes brittle and breaks adn with a little heat like sittin in a warm room can make the mask warp..u want blanks then no face is the best palce for a healtly choice there thin styrenenot as strong as abs but still are great for the price and will last way longer than fiberglassI assure you that these mask will not become brittle over the years, never heard of a NHL mask getting brittle, or an NFL helmet for that matter. It all depends on the maker and quality of the mask. These will not warp, like styrene or ABS will and I agree that a no-face styrene mask is a decent choice for a cheaper mask. Last year I sold over 60 fiberglass masks to users on this board, not one complained. In fact, they ordered more. But hey, buy what you want and dont complain when you get what you pay for! Wanted: Hock Blanks - GBeninati - 02-05-2005 I didn\'t mean for my post to deter anyone from getting your blanks, but I think people should know the dangers, I was thinking of picking one up myself G Wanted: Hock Blanks - mike - 02-05-2005 im glad u use a mask and wet sand but even a resperator isnt great particles still get in, im not talking from someone getting your blanks im speaking about u making them period..and helmets and such are backed wit hfoam and that keeps the helemts from warping or cracking plus they use a higher grade resin, but jsut make sure u wear as much protective stuff as possible cause it is bascially like asbestos..on a side note abs doesnt warp unless exposed to 300 degrees or higher..jsut look at all the mcdonalds signs lol Wanted: Hock Blanks - Bear - 02-05-2005 It\'s all good Bro. I\'m just tired of people putting down Fiberglass Hockey’s because they bought one from someone who was inexperienced in making them and they think they\'re all like that. If they were to stop and think, the mask that started it all was based on the Fibrosport Hockey mask, a fiberglass mask. (Which I pointed out to the lawyers of Warner Brothers when we got a C&D and that\'s why they now say that the Triangles are what\'s copyrighted trademarked.) Anyway, production cost, and durability on set, drove the F/X department to start making ABS masks and they followed throughout the series. Once David Miller offered the ABS masks on his site everyone had to have the ABS masks and it became standard. If everyone wants to be that accurate with the masks, they should buy a DM mask and leave it at that. There are dangers associated with the fiberglass if precautions are not taken. With that said, so is Vacuum Forming ABS and Styrene, soldering blades on F. Gloves, painting hockey masks, carrying machetes, wearing F. Gloves, and the list goes on. When sanding my hockey masks, you are only sanding the Gel coat, not the fiberglass cloth. When drilling the holes, the only dust that comes off is resin, again not the cloth. Anyway, I\'ll leave the subject at that because I don\'t want to start any wars of conflict. I posted my hockey masks because the thread was "Wanted: Hockey Mask blanks." - Bear Wanted: Hock Blanks - mike - 02-05-2005 no conflict at all i made soem fiberglass mask at first that cracked and broke then i learned and i made soem that didnt break as well they flexed some . so with that said screw NLC and there tris u cant copyright a triangle |
