Picture Of The New Jason! - Crash - 07-18-2008 Here's my opinion and then yall can have it.For one thing, I'm glad they only showed us a long shot of Jason. I think the older F13 movies worked best when Jason's entire being wasn't on screen for every single kill.Secondly about the photo itself, and this isn't a judgment about the movie so don't anybody get their panties in a wad . . . I don't like it. The fake fog with beams of light shining through it kills the whole image for me. If it wasn't for that and the amped up color saturation, I'd really dig the photo.Everyone sees Jason and Friday the 13th differently. While some on here are partial to the cheesy, over the top aspects of an undead, unstoppable killing machine in the latter installments (6-VS), others prefer the more serious (as can be) tone of the first 4. Watch part 2 or 4 next to say part 6 or 8 and you'll see what I mean. Not saying one is better than the other, but the consensus among the general movie-goer as to what and who Friday the 13th and Jason are have somehow been decided with the later feel of the movies. While nearly everyone may know the name of Jason Voorhees, I'm willing to bet only a small percentage will know that Jason was once a little grittier and darker than most think. They were called Friday the 13th movies, not Jason movies. Different era, different opinions. So what if YOUR Jason is different from MY Jason. My hope for this new movie is that they bring back some of that darker and grittier feel like parts 2 and 4 had and take the character of Jason a bit more seriously. But if I do see a kill involving a PARTY HORN, FLYING V, RV WALL or TOXIC WASTE then I'll know they didn't.And I agree with whoever said that at least this will be titled Friday the 13th again, rather than Jason Does This or That. Picture Of The New Jason! - knewby - 07-18-2008 Nicely said Crash. You are right about the tone of the first 4. F13th was definately meant, talking about the original film, meant to be a really scary flick. 2-4 kept much of that feeling but, like most 80's horror, the rest of the sequels descended more into tongue in cheek and campy horror. That is why I have a good feeling about the crew behind this movie....No one is more of a TCM fan than I am and I vividly recall sitting in my seat during the remake and thinking to myself..."damn this is hardcore"....hopefully that feeling of dread will carry over to this movie and there will no chance of campy/comedy here............................Larry Picture Of The New Jason! - puckface - 07-18-2008 <!--quoteo(post=267417:date=Jul 18 2008, 01:02 PM:name=knewby)<div class=\'quotetop\'>QUOTE(knewby @ Jul 18 2008, 01:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
<div class=\'quotemain\'><!--quotecNicely said Crash. I'm assuming they decided to go that way because they realized the first two aren't as popular with a younger fan base, and knew that the "jason with the hockey mask" is the most iconic version of the character. Although I'm going to be a little bummed not so see the first two redone completely before we jump right into 3, I suppose they made a wise decision in the long run. Picture Of The New Jason! - Krazy Ken - 07-18-2008 I don't care too much for that pic. To me, the trend of making films look like music videos is not stylization. Films like Suspiria, The Fog, Halloween and many more that I'm leaving out are all very good examples of a stylized film look. Further more, if I were directing this I would not try and create a certain "style" as F13th films really do not have much style, they more or less just concentrated on atmosphere and being a fun film to watch. But I guess that's why Marcus Nispel is doing it and I'm just a guy trying to break into the business. Picture Of The New Jason! - knewby - 07-18-2008 I have no problem with them trying to put parts 1-3 into one film. Like you pointed out, the studios realize fans want a hockey-masked Jason and would be foolish not to give it to them. Hockey masks are now synonymous with Jason.....most people immediately think of F13th when they see a hockey mask. And they WON'T be coming close to it any time soon. Films just aren't made that way anymore. Coming to terms with that fact, and armed with the knowledge that a feeling similar to the "classics" is what I LOOK FOR in all modern horror films to keep me interested, I can safely say that I probably won't ever enjoy this picture - even if I know practically *nothing* about it. I'm not going to fool myself into believing that it's "worth a chance" this time. I already know what I desire from a movie, and "Zombie the 13th" ain't it.As for you, Larry, you can go see it for whatever reasons you like. Hell, you might even love it if you're lenient enough in your judgment of today's "big studio films", and that's perfectly fine, too. I won't be going because I already know what *not* to expect, which is all that really matters to me.Cheers,Ryan |
