I think you guy's are reading to far into it. He was saying that was his mind set at the time and was the reason he did the Burning.

I remember hearing all the stories (I remember the deadpit one) but I just had to go up to him. I said thank you at least twice and he was decent (distant) and I remember thanking him at least twice and he replied "hey that's what Im hear for". So I had a pretty good meeting with him.
