Shaping Plastic - Last_of_the_Brunnen-G - 02-04-2006 Are any of you familiar with reshaping models and figures? It\'s when you take and heat up the piece, then shape it and put it into cold water. Sometimes you have to put it in the freezer over night. Have any of you come across soemthing that just wouldn;t hold the new shape? I\'m having that problem now, so for anyone with lots of expereince, can you tell me what the deal is? Shaping Plastic - Jason-V - 02-04-2006 what type of plastic?? ABS, styrene, lexan, plexi..ploycarbonate..etc Shaping Plastic - Last_of_the_Brunnen-G - 02-04-2006 I have no idea. It\'s a Wolverine figure. I found it while looking for something else and got bored and decided to fix it. The claws on them were/are always bent in the package. Shaping Plastic - Jason-V - 02-05-2006 could be 2 part resin plastic.. not sure how to solve that problem... Shaping Plastic - stainboy - 02-05-2006 Sure did, Brunnen-G. I bought a vintage Lone Ranger figure from Ebay, and his ranger hat had the front bill shaped like a C. The damn thing would not conform, no matter what I did. It was a type of rubber plastic that was very flexible but wouldnt be willing to stay in a non natural position for any reason. I messed with it by dipping it in scalding hot water on the stove and did the whole flex thing and ran in under water. I did so many different things that never worked. Then, I did the hot water thing again for 10 minutes, shaped it to my desire, and immediately prepped it with duct tape to hold the shape. I then put the duct taped hat into my freezer for three days. It was rock solid when I pulled it off. I figured that if it went back to the C shape when I pulled the duct tape off, that I would never be able to reshape it. But when I slowly pulled the tape off, the hat was perfect. That was 3 months ago, and the hat is still in perfect shape. Hope this helps.... |
