Warning: Avoid Dealing With Sam Hain (anthony Li) - Chainsaw9 - 07-20-2006

Just wanted to post a warning about Sam Hain (Anthony Li) on this forum.
We negotiated a deal for his "Poster Light Boxes" he had available on the FX Lab classifieds. I mailed him a check and he mailed out things after the check cleared. When I opened the box last night, NOTHING was as he had described!! Everything was supposed to be in perfect condition and in perfect working order. When I pulled out the pieces, both flouresent lights were broken. Both back sheets of metal were dented, scratched and in need of paint. The sheets of plastic that surround the poster were broken and scratched. It was just a total mess!
I contacted him immediately by e-mail and his only response was that things were working when he sent them out. He did not address the condition nor did he offer to make things right. I contacted UPS only to find out that he did not insure the box and the most I could get out of a claim would be $100. There\'s no way that this damage was caused by shipping. If that were the case, the pieces that were broken would have been in the box! The light fixtures had one end completely missing on both fixtures. They were no where to be found. The cracked pieces of plastics were also not in the box. This is how things were sent. I e-mailed him several times trying to give hime the benefit of the doubt. But he refuses to make this right.

After contacting UPS to see if they had any Fraud claims, they told me to contact the FBI and file a "Mail Fraud" claim since this box was transported across state lines. I did that last night and am waiting to hear back from them. I also filed a damage claim with UPS and their inspector will come and check out the box and contents. By the way, the box was very poorly packed. No padding or anything. Just some hard pieces of cardboard between the boxes, etc.

Anyway, I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on dealing with Anthony Li (Sam Hain).. either on this board or any of the other boards out there. I\'m not sure what else to do, but at this point, I\'m out the money I paid and have nothing to show for it. There is nothing I have that is repairable. I will need two new flouresent lighting fixtgures to start out with. And new plastics. I may be able to bend out the metal boxes and paint them or something. It\'s a shame that people just can\'t own up to their responsibilities and be honest. I have all e-mail correspondance between Anthony and I. He stated that the boxes were in perfect condition and only one had ever been used. I have a box of scraps that show otherwise! It should be a simple case to prove mail fraud.. so we\'ll see.

If anyone has any other advice on what else I can do to get this situation taken care of, please e-mail me at daw@jhu.edu.

Thanks for listening!
