Question For The Hock Guys - Mask Murderers - 08-24-2006 Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you can help with a problem I had, I painted some hockey masks & when I sprayed the gloss coat one of them has this cracking looking effect going on, it looks neat but it is not what I wanted, has any of you had this problem? I can\'t find krylon around town so here is what I used. The one that turned out fine. Base coat Rust paint/ colour place walmart paint Finish painters Touch clear coat These worked well together, nice smooth surface, no cracking effect Second one Base coat Painters Touch paint Finish Painters Touch clear coat I thought be\'ing the same brand they would work together well but the did not, it had that cracking effect. Can it be that I appied the acrylics to heavy? I am not sure why it did this & it has happened before, can weather or time of day cause this problem? Any help would be great! Thanks in advance. Question For The Hock Guys - Mask Murderers - 08-24-2006 Here\'s a pic of the problem, this one really show\'s what I am talking about. As soon as I sprayed the clear coat this cracking effect started to happen, anybody have any idea\'s or had this happen to them? Question For The Hock Guys - Homicidal#9 - 08-24-2006 i cannot speak for the Hockey Mask makers, but in my experience painting up hockey masks, humidity plays a really big factor. I have had that same end result because of humidity. I also had that happen once when i did not allow enough time for the other paint layers to dry before i put on the clear coat... just my two cents, Tommy Question For The Hock Guys - Mask Murderers - 08-24-2006 Thanks Tommy, sorry about that, I should have put had Hockey Mask experience, sorry about that bud, yeah it seems when it is getting late for me like after 10 it does it, when I spray during a sunny day it seems fine, I really have no clue. Thanks again for the input Tommy, any help is great help dude. Question For The Hock Guys - Crash - 08-24-2006 Yeah, Tommy\'s right on both counts. Whether that applies to you or not I don\'t know. If the basecoat isn\'t fully dry or cured, when it does dry it "tightens" and causes the top layer to crack. It\'s a nice effect when wanted, but I see your point. And humidity is a bitch on them too. Question For The Hock Guys - Homicidal#9 - 08-24-2006 no worries at all man. I didn\'t even take it as that. I just didn\'t want anyone thinking i was a high and mighty Hockey Mask maker or anything. Like i said, I just know what i have experienced. I also learned to never try to put on a clear coat after dark. It will either crack, flake up, or never dry evenly. Looking good also Bob... Tommy |
