I\'m repairing a mask here, and figured it might make for a cool thread if I put in progress shots along the way.
The mask was made cut to wear, and I\'m going to restore it to a display version. Repairing the slit in the neck, the eye hole, and then repainting it.
Haven\'t gotten too far yet, just put the first layer on the patch inside the neck. I\'ll update with photos as I go along.

It\'s a Melonhead by LatexFX. I forgot to get pics before I started, but it has a light skin tone to it right now.

What are you reinforcing the layers of latex with?
Cool practice for restoration work. I\'m restoring a old distortions Critter for Hellbound and am having a hell of a time getting the layers to stick to the super old latex. Trying new formulas right now

For reinforcment I am using cheesecloth, it should make the layers nice and strong.
This is still relatively new latex so I don\'t have to worry too much about adhesion, I cleaned it up with rubbing alcohol to remove the talc that was inside.
For the older stuff you could maybe try scoring it on the inside with a blade, then you could brush on a thin layer and work it into the cracks. It\'d give you a nice fresh layer to start repairing on..

Ya i\'ve never used cheese cloth. I\'ve always tried cotton things. I restored my rotting Don Post Skeksis mask using toilet paper and latex and it is still really nice! Paint work made it look like new.

Cool work pics.. i repaired a mask awhile back. For the slit i cleaned the area. Took some 36 grit sand paper and lightly scratched the area to apply the new latex. Worked great! Might wont to try that Dan. I then used this weird cloth we have at work. Its like woven with wide gaps, worked pretty good!

Only problem I have with scoring the area I want to restore is that the latex is rotting and cracking and there\'s little space to do so. I\"ll probably try that though. Might just take hold...

Good idea for a thread, i have also repaired a few masks in the past, i have also used pros aide and used that as the first couple of layers, then gone over that with the latex, gives it something to bit onto.
