Chroming A Hockey Mask - darko@totalgeek - 12-13-2006

I\'m thinking of purchasing a frightstuff blank hockey mask and seeing if I could get the thing chromed.

I want to achieve the Jman GOES TO HELL POSTER highly polished effect.

Anyone attempted or sucessfully produced one?

Would the plastic melt during the chroming process?

Suggestions anyone!

I would assume it would melt it???

I\'d get a fiberglass pull and do it! That would be a heavy duty piece!

Just get some chrome spray paint. It comes out looking great.

Chromium plating is a zinc, nickel METAL liquid that is electrically charged to the material. Plastic wouldnt work.. yea it would melt. There is a plating process that can stick to resin. Not real chrome though.

I\'ve been kicking the same idea around for a long time bro. You see chrome plated plastic around all the time, right? So did I. So, I asked an expert. My brothewr is a professional metal finisher with 20 years under his belt. Chrome, being his specialty. Big Grin Here is what he told me when I asked him.

" It can definately be done. But unless you have about a thousand pieces, the price for just one can be pretty staggering. I would suggest making on out of metal if possible, then Have that one chrome plated."

Well those are the words of an expert. Sad So everybody light the fires and start pounding the anvils!

Is it just me or is the hockey on the cover of JGTH the Jman X style hockey. I\'ve always though so. I remember seeing the teaser poster in \'92 and thinking "thats not even the right mask". Then it shows up 10 years later in Jman X with an axe mark and a forehead triangle. Am I wrong?

Chrome spray painting an axeless pristine X Hockey Mask would look pretty balls on IMO.

That\'s what I got out of it too. Plating plasic is done all the time. They plate plastic at the factory I use to work at, but the tanks are small to the point I don\'t think a Hockey Mask would fit, but I will look into it.
