Its Time To Learn How To Make Some Masks! - BELLAMY - 08-21-2007

So im realizing I need a new hobby and am to poor to buy the masks I really want.... SO Im going to attempt to make a latex mask.... Most likely a freddy or something.... I found this kit <a href=\"http://www.monstermakers.com/maskmakingkits.html\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.monstermakers.com/maskmakingkits.html</a> and am looking into buying it....Any feedback would be appreciated! Is there better kits? Is this a good starter kit?

Don\'t buy that kit...you can get all you need for cheaper.First start with a wig head, pipe with flange, and screw the flange to a piece of wood for a quick stand.Order some clay and get started! If anything, order the guide book.Half that stuff isn\'t practical. The paint stinks too. You can make your own with mask latex and house paints.

Like Dan saidIt's not really worth buying and it is a very expensive way to startJust go out buy some clay either water based or oil ( i prefere oil as there's no time limit with the sculpture) and then find something that will make a good armature, like a foam hat stand or something and get started. The thing to remember is sculpture the mask a little larger than it needs to be as it will shrink when the latex dries out, If yoo dont compensate for this in your sculpture you will end up with a mask that is too small.best of luck mate If you ned any more help drop me a pm be glad to help <img src=\"http://forums.NIGHTOWLpro.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"wink.gif\" />

I did exactly that and you will save your self some money as well. Go to home depot, everything needed to make your own armature is there. Go out get a piece of wood about 15 x 15 (inches), PVC Pipe about 1.25 in diameter about 1.5 in length, a 1.25 flange and a screw cap to go into the flange. Then screw the flange into the center and put screw the pvc pipe into the flange and walah you got yourself an armature. Then go out to a beauty supply store and buy some foam head and stick the head on the pipe. All this should cost less the $20 bucks. Oh also do not get NSP Chavant Medium clay, pain in the a$$ to work with. Go with NSP Chavant Soft or WED clay. Here are pics of the armature I made. Simple, easy and effective. <img src=\"http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y271/krazedkilla/Collection/Picture090.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /><img src=\"http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y271/krazedkilla/Collection/Picture089.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" />

Here is a website for you, there store is based in Toronto and for 40lbs NSP Chavant Soft it costs $155. That enough to make pretty much anything you want. <a href=\"http://www.sculpturesupply.com/\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.sculpturesupply.com/</a>
